SERBIA BEGINS VACCINATION IN RESIDENCES FOR THE ELDERLY

Three days before the European Union (EU), Serbia, not a member of the bloc, began this Thursday with the vaccination against covid-19 with the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine in nursing homes, as a category at risk, in Belgrade and Novi Sad (north).

The first to receive the vaccine at the “Torlak” Institute of Virusology in Belgrade was the Serbian Prime Minister herself, Ana Brnabic, followed by the Minister of Labor and epidemiologist, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, and the epidemiologist Predrag Kon, members of the management body of covid-19, to give an example of the importance of immunization.

Last Tuesday, a first contingent of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine arrived in Serbia, from 4,870 units, the only one that for now has obtained authorization for use in this country. Serbia ordered 1.8 million doses of this vaccine that will arrive divided by quarters.

Brnabic assured today that She is the first European Head of Government to have been vaccinated, and that Serbia is the third country in Europe, after the United Kingdom and Switzerland, to initiate immunization against covid-19. “Today is a day to smile, for the first time since March 6 (…), because it marks the beginning of the end of the coronavirus in Serbia, also in Europe and the world,” said the prime minister.

In Serbia, a country of about seven million inhabitants, vaccination is free, and it is not mandatory, but it has been recommended by the health authorities.
