Health Minister Łukasz Szumowski said in TVN24’s “One for One” that the ministry wants to reimburse all medics for influenza vaccinations because it is “the most vulnerable group”. – About 500,000 people will have a chance of full reimbursement, if they are in the health care system – he added.

The Minister of Health, asked in “One for One” whether the second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic is coming in Poland, whether the first wave has not ended yet, said that “we are verifying our expectations for these waves, because there was talk of two waves, now More and more international experts say this virus behaves slightly differently than the seasonal group virus. ” “Perhaps it will be such a plateua,” he added.

When asked if the Ministry of Health was considering introducing compulsory flu vaccinations this season, Szumowski replied that “no compulsory vaccinations, but we propose vaccinations”.

– We want to reimburse all medics for flu vaccinations, because this is the most vulnerable group. Anyway, there are trends in the world that if there is a vaccine against the coronavirus, the medics will get it first – said the Minister of Health.

He added that around 500,000 people will have the chance to be fully reimbursed if they are in the healthcare system.

– We will appeal for more people to vaccinate themselves – said Szumowski. Asked whether, apart from medics, vaccinations will be reimbursed for a larger group of citizens, he replied that “for the elderly and vulnerable people, i.e. we are expanding the reimbursement group”.

“If we doubled the number of sick people every two, three, five days, I would be very concerned”

The minister of health also spoke about the spread of the coronavirus in Poland. He assessed that the current state “does not yet threaten the health care system in Poland”.

He added that 70 people are connected to a respirator. When asked what level would threaten the health care system in Poland, Szumowski replied that it would be when “7, 8, 10 thousand were active in hospitals”.

– If we doubled the number of patients every two, three, five days, I would be very concerned, and if the number (ed.) In hospitals and on ventilators increased, then I would be very concerned – said Szumowski.

The health minister said in “One on One” that “people started getting infected at parties and this is worrying.” – This is a phenomenon that is more difficult to control than a large workplace, where we have all people in one place – he assessed.

– Unfortunately, we can see that this epidemic is now locating in areas where traditionally there are noisy, long weddings, family gatherings and so on – said Szumowski.

What would have to happen for all of Poland to become a red zone again?

From August 8, 19 poviats in the country – divided into yellow and red areas – have been subject to additional restrictions regarding the rules of safety, hygiene and maintaining social distance in public space.

When asked if new poviats with additional restrictions will apply to this list, Szumowski said that the evening and morning analyzes show that “more or less the number of these poviats will be similar”.

When asked what would have to happen for the whole of Poland to become a red zone again, i.e. to be subject to very restrictive restrictions, the Minister of Health replied that “we would have to face a failure of the health care system, because this moment threatens people’s lives”.
