Defense Minister Walter Martos announced that this Saturday the 21st will be the last day that the Government will provide facilities for the return of Peruvians from abroad to Peru and will support the return of foreigners to their respective countries. In this sense, he explained that from Sunday the airports and borders of the territory will be closed permanently in the framework of the State of National Emergency (quarantine) to prevent the advance of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
In an interview to Canal N, Martos explained that today more than a thousand compatriots have entered and also an equal number of foreigners have arrived flights to Brazil, Uruguay, Santiago de Chile, Miami, Mexico, Houston, among others. He stressed that these flights are carried out through a coordinated work by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Tomorrow is the last day that facilities are being given to foreigners to leave and to compatriots to return. The president has ordered that as of Sunday all airports and all borders are closed completely to take a much stricter measure. It had been relaxed due to the problems our compatriots had abroad and the main compatriots who had problems in other countries are being repatriated. As of Sunday, all airports are closed and immobilization measures at the national level are extreme “, he claimed.
Regarding other measures as part of compulsory social immobilization, he pointed out that he is coordinating with regional governors, mayors, and members of the Armed Forces (Armed Forces) to carry out better control on the streets.
“We make a call to all Peruvians that it is everyone’s job. We call for your understanding. If they do not become aware of this, this situation of immobility is going to lengthen unnecessarily due to the negligence of many of us. ”he concluded.
