Since Tuesday the first one affected by the coronavirus was detected in Brazil in Latin America, to the four cases confirmed this Saturday in Mexico, the continent has followed with more caution than means the evolution of a virus that now affects less than a dozen people, but that moves in a context of poor health and few hospitals prepared.

In Colombia the Government of Iván Duque concluded on Friday the repatriation of 15 Colombians from the Chinese city of Wuhan, considered the zero zone of the coronavirus. All of them are under observation in the Olympic Village of Bogotá. But despite the official self-pomp for the success of the operation, the mission, however, is far from exemplary. Since the first cases of coronavirus were known in Wuhan, Colombians residing there began to see how their neighbors or fellow students, in the case of university students, were repatriated by their respective governments. Having no response from the Duke Executive, they contacted the media and reported feeling trapped in China. “That we are evacuated as other countries are doing, or that if at the moment we cannot be evacuated to send us financial aid or food, which we will need,” one of them asked through videos. “I feel abandoned by our Government,” they denounced.

Meanwhile in Mexico, the authorities confirmed the existence of a fourth case in the city of Torreón (Coahuila) which joins two others in Mexico City and one more in Sinaloa. The governor of Coahuila, Miguel Riquelme, confirmed that it is a student who recently arrived from Italy. “She is a 20 year old woman who was in Milan between January and February. He arrived on Tuesday, February 25 and after two days he began with the symptoms. I came with two other young people that we are looking for between the federal government and ours to make the necessary revision, ”said the governor. The doctors confirmed that the patient was already isolated, is at home and with the necessary care, as well as with the suggested medications to temper the permanence of the virus.

In the southern cone, Ecuador has joined the list of countries affected by the coronavirus. The Minister of Health, Catalina Andramuño, confirmed on Saturday the case of a 71-year-old woman who arrived in the coastal city of Guayaquil on a direct flight from Madrid on February 14. According to official information, he had no symptoms but, after a few days, he began to feel general malaise and fever, and went to a health center. The woman comes from Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid), where there are already three local cases.

“As has already happened in 54 countries, the measures adopted have not prevented the virus from entering and today we have the first patient in Ecuador. This is an imported case: an Ecuadorian citizen residing in Spain, ”said the minister. For now, the country controls travelers originating in Italy, Iran, Korea and China. But not those of Mexico, Brazil or Spain, because, according to the authorities, these countries have imported and non-native cases.

For its part, Brazil confirmed the existence of a second affected person who joins the 61-year-old man who was treated in Sao Paulo and is considered the first case on the continent.

The health authorities in Argentina reported that three people are under observation, while four others were taken samples at their homes because they were on the Westerdam cruise, which a few weeks ago was rejected by five Asian countries for fear of the expansion of the coronavirus .

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people affected worldwide is 85,403 people. Of these 79,394 are located in China and another 6,009 correspond to other nationalities, seven of them Latin American. Wuhan’s coronavirus arrived in Latin America a month after the first cases detected in China and when it was already spreading in 44 countries of the world.
