In France, the number of cases of coronavirus infection in the past month has risen sharply

The number of people infected with coronavirus continues to grow in Europe. France has reported a record rise in new cases of Covid-19, and the disease is also spreading with renewed vigor in Spain and the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, the Israeli authorities again introduced a full lockdown throughout the country.

According to Johns Hopkins University, in all countries of the world, Covid-19 has already fallen ill with 28.7 million people, 920.8 thousand patients have died. During the pandemic, 19.4 million people recovered.

On Saturday, French authorities said 10,561 new cases were registered in the day, a thousand more than the day before. The number of patients admitted to hospitals and intensive care units diagnosed with Covid-19 has also increased.

In this regard, a group of respected doctors urged the French population to refrain from private meetings. “After a joyous summer of communication, it is time to return to caution,” insisted doctors in an article published Sunday by Le Journal du Dimanche. “The smaller the room, the more people in it, the less air there is and the higher the risk of infection,” the experts remind.

Since June, the level of infection in France has increased in all age groups without exception, but authorities indicate that the increase is especially noticeable among young people.

France is not the only European country with an increase in infections.

As authorities across the continent began to loosen the stringent quarantine measures introduced in March, the number of infected began to gradually increase, and in August jumped markedly.

Latest news from France

On Saturday, 2,432 patients diagnosed with coronavirus were hospitalized in France, which is 75 more than the day before. Of these, 417 were placed in intensive care units, which is 28 people more than in the previous day.

At the same time, 17 people died. In total, the number of deaths in France during the pandemic exceeded 30 thousand – this is the seventh figure in the world.

Wearing masks on the streets of Paris is now a must for everyone

The country’s authorities have already declared 42 regions as “red zones” where the virus is actively spreading. The requirements for wearing masks and public gatherings have been tightened. These zones included Paris, Lyon and practically the entire Mediterranean coast of France.

Prime Minister Jean Castex, who recently had to undergo a coronavirus test himself after close contact with those infected, called on local authorities in Bordeaux, Marseille and the French overseas department of Guadeloupe to take “a series of additional additional measures” from Monday to contain the rise in infection.

In turn, the organizers of the Tour de France banned spectators from being at the start and finish of the stages passing through the red zones.

The situation in other European countries

New outbreaks of coronavirus have also been reported in several other European countries.

On Sunday, the Czech Republic recorded a new three-day record for the growth of infections: there were 1541 cases.

Spanish princess Leonor also had to go to quarantine

Neighboring countries began to impose restrictions on entry from the Czech Republic. From Wednesday, Germany will be demanding coronavirus test results from everyone traveling from Prague.

Last Thursday, Spain had the highest number of infections in a single day, with 10,764 new cases, although the health ministry says the situation is stabilizing.

Spain still ranks first in the number of people infected with coronavirus in Europe: since the beginning of the pandemic, 566.3 thousand people have fallen ill there, 29.7 thousand have died.

Princess Leonor of Asturias, the 14-year-old heiress to the Spanish throne, went into quarantine after one of her classmates was diagnosed with Covid-19. Now, all students at the Santa Maria de los Rosales school in Madrid will have to be tested for coronavirus.

In Britain, the number of new cases of infection over the weekend exceeded 4 thousand, large gatherings of people are again banned in the country. In England and Scotland, no more than six people can now meet.

Lockdown in Israel again

The Israeli government announced that it will introduce a three-week lockdown next Friday to stop the spread of the coronavirus. In Israel, with a population of about 9 million, up to 4,000 cases of coronavirus have been detected every day in recent weeks.

Benjamin Netanyahu has been criticized for his policies during the pandemic

Thus, Israel will become the first state in the world to fully resume quarantine measures throughout its territory. Israeli authorities supported similar measures from late March to early May, when the world was experiencing the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Measures introduced in Israel:

  • Groups of no more than 10 people can gather indoors, and no more than 20 people on the street;
  • Schools and shopping centers are closing;
  • Residents of the country can move more than 500 meters from their homes just to travel to work;
  • Non-governmental institutions and companies can remain open, but they cannot accept clients;
  • Supermarkets and pharmacies continue to operate.

The decision was made against the backdrop of a sharp increase in the number of cases, as well as fears that the infection will spread among believers, who will soon celebrate important religious holidays. This includes the Jewish New Year, which falls on next Friday, as well as the most important holiday of Judaism, Yom Kippur, which will be celebrated on September 27 this year.

Earlier, in protest against the introduction of quarantine, the Minister of Housing, Yaakov Litsman, a representative of one of the ultra-Orthodox parties, resigned. He was unhappy that the lockdown would prevent people from participating in religious ceremonies.

Police say protestors threatened them

The demonstration was attended by about 250 people. The police claim that many of the demonstrators behaved aggressively and threatened security officials.

Victoria quarantine measures were introduced in early July. The state authorities have already announced that they are preparing to alleviate them somewhat.

Victoria has become the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak in Australia – 75% of all coronavirus cases occurred here. 90% of Australians who have died from the coronavirus also lived in this state.
