Members of the Bulgarian Association of Restaurants (BAZ) and the Association of Restaurants in Bulgaria (SZB) reported police harassment against customers, owners and managers of restaurants in Blagoevgrad on Saturday night with a press release.

The police in Blagoevgrad stated, quoted by BNT, that he was detained in a visibly intoxicated state for aggression and disobedience to a police order. He later wrote a written statement in which he regretted his behavior.

However, the Association of Restaurants in Bulgaria insists on disciplinary measures by the leadership of the Ministry of Interior. The reason is, in fact, disagreement with the regulations, according to which the establishments are not allowed to work after 11 pm due to another wave of coronavirus.

The Bulgarian Association of Restaurants and the Association of Restaurants in Bulgaria and our members have declared “civil disobedience” against ineffective and discriminatory brands to combat COVID-19. We are ready to bear our responsibility, but the police arbitrariness against Bulgarian entrepreneurs and customers of the restaurants will not be tolerated and accepted, the organizations write.

They quote a colleague from the city, according to whom “dozens of policemen come out on Friday and Saturday. There was an action this weekend – NRA, police, labor inspection, customs, fire, municipal police. They walk the streets of Blagoevgrad at night, beat people and arrest them “According to them, there is an evening time and after 11 pm there will be no one on the streets. They stop the music of a restaurant that works after 11 pm, write acts of all clients and chase them. Until everyone leaves, the police stay inside.”-
