Coronavirus in Argentina: the Government attributes the record of deaths to the increase in COVID-19 infections

The governments of the Nation, the city and the province of Buenos Aires analyzed the jump in the number of daily deaths from coronavirus registered between the day before yesterday and yesterday with concern, but without alarm. Although they did not rule out the existence of specific factors that explain this growth, they agreed that, in principle, it is the natural consequence of the increase in infections that occurred this month.

It is this last piece of data that generates concern, especially about the shared plans of quarantine easing. The national, Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires administrations also agree that if a growth in the number of daily cases is consolidated, it will be necessary to evaluate the reimposition of restrictions on movement. Intermittent quarantine is the model they could use Alberto Fernández, Axel Kicillof and Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

New record of deaths from COVID-19

The deaths reported on Tuesday totaled 117, a record since the start of the pandemic. The figure includes, however, a distorted number, given that the 24 deaths assigned to Jujuy yesterday morning correspond, in fact, to data accumulated during the last weeks, that they had not been loaded on time, as reported by the government of that province. Jujuy registers a total of 32 deaths since the start of the pandemic, which shows that the figure from yesterday morning was distorted.

But even with that caveat, the number of deaths in the last 48 hours across the country shows a peak in the death curve. In the Nation, City and Province Health teams, the record forced further analysis of the data.

He 86.5% of deaths reported the day before yesterday and yesterday, 199 of the 230 occurred in the province and in the city of Buenos Aires. That area yesterday also accumulated 92.2% of the 5,344 reported infections, an absolute record since the pandemic started. The jump in the number of cases was felt most strongly in the province of Buenos Aires, where yesterday 3477 infections, a district record. In the Federal Capital were 1452, also the highest figure since the start of the pandemic.

Another caveat: a portion of the cases reported in the last three days correspond to Saturday the 18th, when there was a failure in the information recording computer system, which prevented consolidating all the data for that day. The cases not counted on Saturday were distributed and impacted on the reports of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

“The greater the number of cases, the greater the number of deaths,” they evaluated on both sides of General Paz, about the peak in the number of deaths. “It is within expectations,” said a trusted official from the Buenos Aires head of government. “It is a reality. We are going to have more cases and more deaths,” they lamented in the Kicillof government.

The figures show that the case curve and the death curve advance evenly. The case fatality rate, which measures the number of deaths in relation to the number of infections, remains stable, below 2%. “We will have to look at this week’s data to see if a trend is consolidating and the number of deaths is starting to skyrocket,” they said in the Ministry of Health of the Nation.

Within the province of Buenos Aires, The municipality with the most deaths is La Matanza, but only because it is, by far, the one with the largest population and, therefore, the one with the most infections. The case-fatality rate in that territory, of 1.11%, is, in fact, one of the lowest in the suburbs. The second municipality with the most deaths is San Martin, with 79 fatal cases out of 3,348 infections, which yields a case fatality rate of 2.36%. With the same number of deaths, Lomas de zamora It has a case fatality rate of 1.89%.

The fourth municipality with the most deaths is Quilmes, with 78 fatal cases until yesterday, and a fatality rate of 1.4%. La Plata continues on the list, with 41 deaths and a rate of 2.06%; Florencio Varela, 38 deaths and a rate of 1.51%; Merlo, 35 deaths and a rate of 1.37%; Berazategui, 33 deaths and a rate of 1.58%; Moreno, 32 deaths and a rate of 1.55%; Morón, 32 deaths and a rate of 1.92%; and Escobar, 32 deaths and a rate of 2.94%.
