Coronavirus in Argentina: 214 deaths and 8,159 infections confirmed in the last 24 hours

The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Friday that During the last 24 hours, 214 deaths and 8,159 new positive cases from coronavirus were registered. With these data, the total number of infected throughout the country amounts to 329,043 and fatalities total 6,730.

Of all those cases, 1,175 (0.4%) are imported, 82,187 (25%) are close contacts of confirmed cases, 201,933 (61.4%) are cases of community circulation and the rest are under epidemiological investigation.

In the morning report there were 50 deaths:34 men, 13 residents in the province of Buenos Aires, eight in Jujuy, five in the city of Buenos Aires, two in Neuquén, two in Chaco, one in Mendoza, one in Chubut, one in Entre Ríos, one in Salta; and 16 women, 10 residents in the province of Buenos Aires, four in Jujuy and two in Mendoza.

In the evening report, 164 deaths were reported:94 men, 61 residents in the province of Buenos Aires, 14 in the city of Buenos Aires, 10 in Jujuy, five in Santa Fe, one in Córdoba, one in Corrientes, one in Mendoza, one in Salta; and 70 women, 47 residents in the province of Buenos Aires, 12 in the city of Buenos Aires, five in Jujuy, one in Córdoba, one in Entre Ríos, one in Mendoza, one in Salta, one in Santa Fe and one in Santiago del Estero.

During Thursday’s session, 21,695 new samples were taken and since the beginning of the outbreak, 1,052,687 diagnostic tests for this disease were carried out, which is equivalent to 23,198.8 samples per million inhabitants. To date, the total number of registrations is 239,806 people.

The number of cases discarded until yesterday is 589,453 (by laboratory and by clinical / epidemiological criteria).

At the head of the daily report issued by the Ministry of Health of the Nation, the Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, noted that 20% of the cases reported yesterday occurred outside the Metropolitan Area of ​​Buenos Aires (AMBA) and there are 15 provinces that register community transmission.

The official assured that the “slowdown” in the increase in AMBA cases is “good news”, but that It does not mean that “the problem is over” but that the distancing measures are having “effect” that must continue to be sustained in order to “visualize” a decline in the contagion curve.

He also stressed the need not to underestimate symptoms, contact the health system and maintain the isolation of suspected and confirmed cases. In addition, he asked “Redouble attention” on protection measures during social gatherings.

Regarding people admitted to intensive care, 24% of the patients reside in the provinces and outside the AMBA.

A total of 1,832 people suffer from the disease in these critical units throughout the country: 76.6% of them in establishments in the city and the province of Buenos Aires, 4.6% in Córdoba and 3.9% in Mendoza, as indicated in the report.

The occupation of intensive care beds, beyond the illness that explains the hospitalization of the patient, at the national level averages 58.6%, while in the AMBA it reaches 68.7%.
