Coronavirus in Alicante: The Consortium Crea instructs the 14 municipalities in its area to safely manage the garbage that may contain the virus

According to the Ministry, the disposable material used by the sick person and their caregivers (gloves, scarves, masks), the personal protective equipment of health personnel (exceptglasses and mask) And any other waste from the patient, must be deposited in a garbage can arranged in the room, preferably with a lid and opening pedal. The plastic bag where it is deposited must be hermetically sealed and closed before being removed from the room.

The mask and glasses should be removed outside the patient’s room, where there should also be a container for this purpose, with characteristics similar to those described above and withzip-lock plastic bag.

After each deposit of waste in these bags (bag 1) they must be closed and placed in the bag oftrashintended to contain the rest fraction (bag 2), which will also be hermetically sealed.

Bag 2 will be deposited exclusively in the rest fraction container, being strictly prohibited from being deposited in separate collection containers of any of the fractions (organic, packaging, paper, glass or textile) or, obviously, leaving it in the environment. These bags should be identified externally and clearly, for example, byinsulating tape or the like.

Thetown halls, as entities responsible for the collection, may establish specific collection measures for this type of waste.

These measures, as well as other additional measures that may be established, are necessary to make waste management safer both at home, and for the personnel responsible for waste collection, at the treatment plants where municipal waste arrives. and for all the poblation in general.
