Coronavirus: how to properly clean your smartphone and tablet?

It’s well known, smartphones and tablets are nests for germs. Worse, they are receptors for viruses … when we handle them several times a day with our hands and even touch our face.

In the midst of a Coronavirus epidemic, it is therefore strongly recommended to disinfect them as often as possible. All the more so when our children love to grab them and play with them. So how do we properly clean our smartphones and tablets? We explain to you.

Forget disinfectant solutions

If some people recommend using disinfectant wipes (or a cloth dampened with an antiseptic solution) to clean your devices, it’s not a good idea. Indeed, these very strong solutions may seriously damage your screens.

According to Numerama, you can use soap and water with a very soft cloth (like the one for glasses, for example) to clean your devices. Soak the cloth in soap water and wipe it over the front of the phone or tablet, back, sides and even buttons to get rid of germs. This method is the least risky for your devices, although unfortunately it does not kill all viruses.

The most effective solution remains that proposed by a microbiology researcher in Health magazine. This involves mixing 40% alcohol and 60% water in a container, then reproducing the same gestures as for soaped water with a soft cloth. Be careful, do not put more alcohol than the dose indicated, otherwise the screen of your devices will be scratched.

Some recommendations

Numerama recommends adding a protective film to your smartphones and tablets to protect them from frequent washing. Change it as soon as it is damaged and / or too dirty. Thanks to the protective film, you can also use hydroalcoholic gel to wash your devices, without risk to the screen.

Never put your devices under water, even if they are waterproof! Make sure they are unplugged and turned off when you clean them. Most importantly, wash your hands several times a day.
