Coronavirus: Here Are Other Long-Term Consequences [ Nouvelle étude]

According to a study by researchers at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany), which was released on Friday, Covid-19 can infect the heart and multiply in heart cells. Consequences which are added to others which already facilitated mortality in people with the virus.

The results of the study, however, do not give the possibility of knowing whether the new coronavirus develops differently in patients who already have heart problems. According to the study, which is to appear in the scientific journal JAMA Cardiology, it is possible that the virus SARS-CoV-2 affects heart cells and alter their gene expression. Note that there is a possibility that these changes may have long-term consequences on the health of patients, according to the authors, who now recommend screening people who have recovered from the virus.

Before arriving at these results, the researchers examined the bodies of 39 patients with heart problems who died from the new coronavirus. These patients were on average 85 years old.

It should be noted that the virus was present in heart tissue in two thirds of them. Also, for 16 of them, the concentrations of viral particles were high enough to cause a clinical effect.
