As the pandemic overwhelms Europe, with France in curfew from 9pm and contagions increasing exponentially, Italy is about to launch a new anti-coronavirus squeeze. After more than three hours of confrontation in the Government during the night, some nodes remain on the new dpcm under study, starting from the staggering of school entrances to the reduction of the hours of pubs and restaurants.

The requests of the Regions

In the new confrontation with the Executive (after that of Saturday) the Regions have put forward their own proposals: among these “a squeeze on the nightlife but localized”, that is to say early closing time of the premises at 22 or 23 applied only in the neighborhood of those cities or municipalities where the infection is highest or in other areas where the risk of crowding is greater. The governors also ask the government to evaluate for clubs and pubs “a measure that allows only consumption at the table from 6 pm”.

The proposals of the Regions also include that of granting pharmacists the possibility of being able to carry out swabs and screening and salivary tests and the suspension of local fairs and festivals “with the exception of national and international fairs”. Net opposition, however, to a possible restrictive measure on the closure of gyms.

Economic categories that fear new restrictions after months of unprecedented economic losses in the country are also holding back on more stringent measures. Many governors who point to the gradualness of the measures. Then at the local level further squeezes may be launched based on the number of infections. Therefore, in the face of other 10,925 infections registered on October 17, out of 165 thousand tampons and 47 deaths, we run for cover.

Dpcm in force since 19 October

The confrontation in the night between the government and the regions on the squeeze was tight. The discussion – which majority sources have defined as “very tense” – has not however reached a synthesis of various measures: from the stop at fairs and congresses to the hypothesis of banning the consumption of alcohol while standing outside the premises from 6 pm. however, it should be launched on the same day and come into force on Monday 19 October.
