Concern is growing in the UK as the government announces “more restrictive measures” ready to take effect

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK was facing the second wave of Covid-19 this week and outlined new restrictions for residents of the worst-affected north, north-west and central regions of England. Among these measures, the UK government is introducing a legal self-isolation obligation, starting September 28, for people who test positive or are called to do so by the National Health Service (NHS). “The best way to fight the virus is for everyone to follow the rules and for people at risk of transmitting the disease to isolate themselves,” the prime minister said in a statement.

Patrols start in Madrid The situation in Spain is also worrying. In Madrid, over 200 policemen have been deployed by the municipality to carry out dozens of random checks in the week in which local lockdowns will be triggered in six districts of the capital. The measure will affect over 800 thousand people throughout the region, the most affected in the country.

The plan will revolve around four axes: street patrols, information campaigns in the first two days, and subsequently the possibility of making fines (from 600 euros upwards), quarantine checks and reinforcements to the police in crowded areas. The health ministry reported that at least 1,500 people across the region have not complied with safety protocols in the past three days.
