Coronavirus: Former soccer player Ilija Petkovic died from COVID-19 | Belgrade | Serbia | Yugoslavia |

Ilija Petkovic was coach of Serbia and Montenegro for two stages

The former Yugoslav international soccer player Ilija Petkovic died in Belgrade at 75 years of age after it was known that he had tested positive for coronavirus.

Petkovic, who has so far served as president of the Belgrade Football Federation, played for the Yugoslavia team 43 times between 1968 and 1974.

For many years he was captain of the Belgrade club OFK Beograd and has been one of the best players of all time for this team. In 1971-1972 he played for the Uruguayan club Peñarol and spent three years in the French Troyes.

He was coach of Serbia and Montenegro from 2000 to 2001 and from 2003-2006 and as a coach he also worked in Switzerland (champion with Servette), Greece (Paok) and China. EFE
