Coronavirus epidemic: China reports more than 900 deaths

The new type of corona virus, which is rampant in China, continues to claim victims. The number of deaths in the People’s Republic is approaching the 1000 mark. According to government reports from Beijing, more than 40,000 people have now contracted the virus.

In China, more than 900 people have now died of the novel corona virus. The number of cases of illness registered in the People’s Republic also increased significantly and is now more than 40,000, as the Chinese government announced in a new interim report.

According to this information, a further 97 people have died as a result of the infection since Sunday. 91 new deaths have been recorded in Hubei Province, the center of the epidemic. The virus had started from the metropolis of Wuhan.

The official total death toll from the mainland China epidemic increased to 908. There are also two other deceased in Hong Kong and the Philippines. At the weekend, the death toll had already exceeded that of the Sars epidemic in 2002 and 2003.

According to the new interim balance sheet, the number of cases of the new virus registered in China rose by more than 3,000 more cases. The government’s Health Committee in Beijing has now given the total number of sufferers as 40,171.

Thousands of doctors flew to Wuhan

In China, thousands of additional doctors traveled to Wuhan to help curb the epidemic. As reported by the state-run Xinhua news agency, around 6,200 medical professionals were brought into the city on 47 charter flights. This is the largest transport of medical personnel since the outbreak of the new lung disease.

In addition to urgently needed medical equipment, nine Chinese airlines had transported 34 teams from several provinces. In Hong Kong, 3,600 passengers and crew members were allowed to leave a cruise ship on Sunday after being quarantined for days. The “Word Dream” was released in the financial metropolis last Wednesday because the virus had been detected in three previous passengers. In addition, three crew members suffered from fever. However, the original suspicion of infection with the lung disease was not confirmed.

However, the passengers of the “Diamond Princess” remained in quarantine. On the cruise ship, which is located in front of the Japanese Yokohama, 61 coronavirus diseases were found. While the infected are being treated in the hospital, 2,000 passengers and 1,045 crew members are expected to remain on board until February 19.

Beijing wants medical goods from Germany

The Chinese central bank announced on Sunday that it would support the fight against the epidemic with the equivalent of around 39 billion euros. Companies that contribute to the prevention and containment of the disease are to be supported with loans. The money flows to national banks and smaller financial institutions in ten provinces and cities, which are then to decide on the granting of the loans.

Meanwhile, according to Xinhua, China wants to buy medical goods in Germany. Prime Minister Li Keqiang called Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday evening.

Li expressed the hope that the world would support China in the fight against the epidemic. Li further explained that he hoped that Germany would make it easier for China to buy medical goods through the trade route. According to the Xinhua report, Merkel agreed to increase cooperation and further medical aid.
