The analyzes to which it was submitted gave this Saturday – in the early afternoon in Japan – a positive result for the infection by Covid-19.RTP contacted the Directorate-General for Health, which says it can only officially confirm this case on Sunday.
Embarked since December 13, the Portuguese has worked as the first plumber for five years.
It was the crew member’s wife, Emmanuelle Maranhão, who reported the results of the analyzes. The Portuguese will not yet have symptoms of the infection, feeling, however, tiredness inherent in the work he performs on the ship.
“My husband clearly indicated to me that he is confirmed with coronavirus. In fact, I spoke to him five minutes ago and he’s still in the cabin and he’s telling me that nobody is going to do anything until morning. What I find unacceptable is that they stay with him there and they will not help him and no one will take him away. Confirmed at two in the afternoon, Japan time, and he’s still there at four in the morning”, Described Emmanuelle Maranhão, on the phone with RTP3.
Later, live to the Newscast, the crew’s wife reaffirmed that her main concern is to see her husband transferred to a hospital.
“In my opinion, the work should have been done differently. I believe that the Japanese authorities did the best they could, but they did not reach everyone, “he said.

On board the cruise ship, more than 600 people remain infected with the coronavirus – 174 days ago it was 174. Two of these people died. There are seven other Portuguese citizens on board.
Since it was detected in Chinese territory at the end of 2019, the coronavirus (Covid-19) has claimed more than 2,345 fatalities and infected more than 76,000 people on an international scale.
Most cases have been diagnosed in China, notably in the central Hubei province.

Listened to by RTP3, the Mayor of Nazaré, Walter Chicharro, said he has information that there are two Nazarenes on board the ship. It was also through Adriano Luís Maranhão’s wife that the mayor learned about the positive result for coronavirus infection.
“I have been in constant contact with the State Department of Health (…) transmitting and clarifying if there were any report to the Government of positive cases of Portuguese and, in particular, of these Nazarenes. I know that reports have come where this is not confirmed, but I have already passed on this information that, due to the indication given by his wife, he is an infected Nazarene on the ship ”, said Walter Chicharro.

“The infected person has body pain, he will be reasonably tired and with great consternation. I know that the families are already under the attention of the Government, but they are unable to speak to the company for which the family members work ”, he added.

Also contacted by RTP3, the director-general of Health, Graça Freitas, said that the entity that leads “learned yesterday that, since the 20th, all people on board were being tested, some even being tested for the second time”.
“We await the official channels, which for the Ministry of Health is the International Health Regulations, which is a worldwide information network managed by the World Health Organization, for the confirmation of this case. We are also awaiting confirmation of this case through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ own channels and our consular services, ”said Graça Freitas.
