Coronavirus: Daily Contaminations Now Higher in the Rest of the World than in China

The epidemic, which appeared in December in China, seems to have peaked there.

Unot improving situation in China, but a list of affected countries which is growing with a first case in Latin America. The new coronavirus has caused more than 81,000 infections and 2,761 deaths worldwide, according to the latest official statement released Wednesday evening by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Some 40 countries affected

The epidemic, which appeared in December in China, seems to have peaked there: the authorities announced Wednesday 52 new deaths in 24 hours, the lowest figure in more than three weeks. The daily number of new people infected elsewhere in the world is now greater than that recorded in China, the WHO said.

The report released Wednesday evening by the WHO reports more than forty deaths since the beginning of the epidemic outside of China (for more than 2,900 confirmed contaminations). It climbs to around fifty if we add the more recent deaths announced by certain countries and not yet taken into account in the WHO balance sheet.

The coronavirus has appeared in several new countries: Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, Greece, Georgia, Algeria, Pakistan, Brazil. This brings the number of countries now affected to around forty. In Europe, Italy, the country most affected, reached Wednesday the bar of 400 cases identified and has twelve deaths. In France, the death toll is now two dead (for 18 cases of infection recorded), after the death of a 60-year-old Frenchman announced on Wednesday.

As for Latin America, it had its first case on Wednesday, with a Brazilian returning from Lombardy.
