The victims of Covid-19 in the world have exceeded 880 thousand while the infections are close to the threshold of 27 million. The United States, Brazil and India are confirmed, in order, the three countries most affected by the pandemic. But the new spike in infections continues to worry Europe too.

The UK recorded 2,988 positives in the last 24 hours, for a total of 347,152 since the start of the health crisis. This is a significant increase from the cases reported on Saturday – 1,813 – and is the first time the country has confirmed more than 2,000 new infections since May. The leap is “worrying” “admitted British health minister Matt Hancock.

In France there are over 7 thousand positives. A high number, but down from the record figures of over 8 thousand recorded on Friday and Saturday. Paris, with a decree published in the Official Gazette and entered “immediately” into force, has included 7 other departments in the list of red zones, also called “zones of active circulation of the virus”. These are Corse-du-Sud, Haute-Corse, Côte-d’Or, Nord, Bas-Rhin, Seine-Maritime and Reunion, which are added to the other 21 already in the list, including Paris and Le Bouches -du-Rhône, the first two areas classified in red.

The situation remains critical in India, which recorded a new record with over 90,000 confirmed cases in 24 hours, and in Australia. Victoria State Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a slight relaxation of restrictions on Melbourne, but the country’s second largest city will remain in lockdown until at least October 26. Andrews reported that from September 13, the night curfew will begin an hour later, at 9pm, and will last until 5am. Individuals living alone will be allowed to indicate the name of a friend or family member they can visit. Two hours of daily exercise will be allowed, as well as activities such as a picnic in the park or reading a book on the beach. Further restrictions could be eased from September 28, but the government will only consider lifting the curfew completely starting October 26.
