Coronavirus. Covid-19: towards a cancellation of the Christmas market

Christmas market

“We will have a final meeting on Tuesday with the deputies concerned. In the process, the decision will be made. Pierre Cuny does not try to maintain the suspense. Obviously, like Metz or Strasbourg, the ax will fall on the Christmas market in Thionville: “Clearly, we are in a perspective of not keeping it”, recognizes the mayor. If the elected official plays extra time, it is only to remove the last uncertainties. Like, for example, whether or not to maintain the giant toboggan toboggan initially planned at Place Au-Bois: “In the context of the moment, that also seems compromised …” The only reason for “satisfaction”: “We will put the package on the illuminations” . A colorful note that contrasts with the gray suit sported by this second confinement.

Weekly markets

THE good news of the moment. By maintaining the Saturday market, the municipality will offer a semblance of activity in the city center. The Tuesday meeting also passes through the cracks of confinement. The only change: it will be limited to its food dimension, the clothing offer not being tolerated until 1is December. As a reminder (and for the sake of form), one thing is obvious: wearing a mask is compulsory in the markets (like everywhere else in the city).

Public services (and buildings)

What is open to the public. Services to the population, marriages, civil status and related services will function normally. The communal social action center is open, with controlled access at the entrance. The Maison du Luxembourg and the THI’PI digital hub are not subject to any restrictive measure.

What is closed to the public. The closure of municipal sports structures is necessary. Ditto concerning the rental of municipal halls. Culture is also paying a heavy price for this health crisis. In detail, the theater, the La Scala cinema, the Flea Tower museum, the LED and the Adagio will display closed doors. Puzzle will work “click and collect” for the rental of cultural goods. The courses of the municipal conservatory will be provided at a distance.

Cellule phoning

The closure of the Espace Saint-Nicolas is imposed but a telephone watch is activated from Monday for those over 65. Objective of the maneuver: provide support adapted to each situation (carrying meals, medical transport, etc.).
