Coronavirus: corticosteroids save the lives of seriously affected patients

An analysis carried out on seven studies carried out around the world confirms the reduction of more than 20% in mortality linked to Covid-19 in the most serious cases. A solution that the WHO now recommends.

It is a hope of life for patients affected by the most serious forms of the coronavirus. The use of corticosteroids, such as dexamethasone, hydrocortisone or methylprednisolone improves their state of health and decreases the risk of mortality, to the point that the World Health Organization now recommends their use in treatment in severe cases, only.

? guideline on use of dexamethasone & other corticosteroids advises:
✅ for oral or intravenous usage in treatment of patients with severe & critical #COVID19
❌ against usage in treatment of non-severe cases

Less 21% mortality after use of corticosteroids

The UN agency made this decision after the publication, Wednesday by the Journal of the American medical association, of a very large study coordinated at the global level by its services. This study, which brings together seven, concluded that there was a 21% decline in mortality due to the coronavirus in its most severe forms when a corticosteroid is administered to patients.

The doctors applied their protocol on 1703 patients, who received a classic treatment, this treatment combined with a placebo or a corticosteroid. This type of molecule treats inflammation and the treatment also speeds up healing.

Results observed in the twelve countries of the study

According to Jonathan Sterne, one of the study’s authors, “the studies studied, carried out in Great Britain, Brazil, Canada, China, Spain, the United States and France, had given consistent results showing a beneficial effect of corticosteroids in the most affected patients, regardless of their age, sex or the length of their disease “, reports the magazine Challenge.

To date, in the event of acute respiratory infection, the treatments provided have included oxygenation and artificial ventilation.
