Coronavirus: contaminations continue to increase in Brussels

Lhe number of new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Belgium stood at 509.4 per day on average between August 12 and 18, which represents a decrease of 17% compared to the previous seven-day period, according to data updated Saturday morning by Sciensano. Contamination is increasing in Brussels and Flemish Brabant.

In Brussels, the number of cases continues to increase, with 874 contaminations, or 68 more compared to the previous period. The incidence is 71.7 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In Flemish Brabant, contamination is also increasing (+16 compared to the previous seven days). A total of 80,894 cases have been confirmed in Belgium since the start of the epidemic.

Regarding hospitalizations, 27 new admissions were recorded on Friday, as well as 34 discharges, for a total of 314 hospitalized patients, including 74 in intensive care. Between August 12 and August 18, 29.7 hospitalizations were recorded on average per day (-9%).

The increase in Covid-19 deaths continues, reaching 9,985 in total. The daily average of deaths over a seven-day period is now 10, or 52% from the previous week.
