Coronavirus – contact tracing in Belgium: we could now ask you for the place of your quarantine

The “contact tracers” will now ask if a person observes his quarantine in second residence, said the acting governor of West Flanders, Anne Martens. This should make it easier to know the whereabouts of secondary residents during their quarantine. The governor had already deplored this lack of clarity with the National Security Council. Anyone staying in a hotel or vacation home should also report this.

Anne Martens had raised the problem with the National Security Council because originally, only the official address of people in quarantine was recorded. “We did not know if second residents or tourists were quarantined at home or if they were, for example, at the Coast”, explains Ms. Martens. “It is already improving. They are also now being asked where they could have been infected”, she adds.

The “tracers” therefore also ask whether the person in question is staying in a hotel, with his family or in a holiday home. “This way we already know better who is staying in West Flanders, for example”, indicates the governor. It is also planned that the electronic form that an infected patient fills out at the general practitioner will be adapted, so that a residential address can be indicated there in addition to the official address.
