Coronavirus: “By staying confined, we will save lives” – News Switzerland: Coronavirus

The Valais government will hold its weekly meeting by conference call this Wednesday. And for good reason: the head of the Department of Security, Institutions and Sport, Frédéric Favre (PLR), contracted the Covid-19. His relatives are in self-quarantine, the Valais state said on Tuesday. The State Councilor, father, answered us at the end of the day. On the phone, her voice is calm and serene.

How are you?

I’m a little tired, but I’m fine.

How did you find out that you were infected?

All members of the government decided to take the test on Monday to find out if special measures should be taken. This is where I tested positive, unlike my colleagues.

Did you feel sick?

I had a lot of muscle pain yesterday (note: Monday), all of a sudden. But I didn’t have a fever or cough, and it still doesn’t. For doctors, I’m a bit of an exception since I don’t have the main symptoms of coronavirus. They think I caught it last weekend. However, I followed the recommendations of the health authorities, I did not see too many people. But it may have been enough for me to touch an infected object somewhere, I don’t know.

Are you worried today?

No. I am 40 years old and in good health. I don’t have the same concerns that people with other illnesses may have. With my family, we remain confined to the house, to avoid infecting vulnerable people. It’s essential. This is how we are going to save lives.

Are your children anxious?

Like children who worry when a parent is sick.

And how do you manage your department?

I work remotely, as I sometimes did for other reasons. My department heads don’t need to have me behind their backs! We keep in touch by email and phone. It’s just the length of time that will change.
