Like other cities in France, Biarritz and Anglet, on the Basque coast, have announced the night-time closure of their beaches due to the still active circulation of the coronavirus in the territory. This measure will come into force on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

After Quiberon in Morbihan or even Les Sables-d’Olonne in Vendée, the mayors of Biarritz and D’Anglet, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, have indicated that access to the beaches will be prohibited to the public at night. So, from Tuesday August 4, the Biarritz beaches will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The LR mayor of Biarritz, Maider Arosteguy, justifies this measure because of the current health context. “I think we should not procrastinate … The disease is moving and seems to be approaching the Basque Coast“, she explained before adding that”many Biarrots are very worried about this influx of people. In particular young people between 20 and 30 years old, who do not necessarily develop the disease but who can be contaminants“.

This season is totally unusual. The influx of foreign summer visitors arriving mainly by plane is replaced by French tourism which travels more by private car. The number of visitors in July was very high and we fear that August will be even more difficult to manage in the face of the health crisis. These measures are necessary to protect summer visitors and Biarrots“, has indicated Maider Arosteguy.

We recall that the mayor of Biarritz also decided toimpose the wearing of a mask outdoors from August 3, and more precisely in the hyper-center of the city.

For his part, Anglet also announces the night closure of its beaches, also starting August 4. « In coordination and in line with the decision of the City of Biarritz to close the beaches from August 4, 2020, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Claude Olive, mayor of Anglet took, following an interview with the prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, an identical decision concerning the Anglet coast »Can we read on the town’s website.

The city ofAnglet therefore indicates that plages angloyes will be prohibited access, from Tuesday August 4 until August 31, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.. « This is to avoid spontaneous and festive gatherings on the sand and in this way fight against the risk of the spread of the Covid-19 virus. »Specifies the city.
