Coronavirus: Austria / Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a warning against traveling to the western Balkans

The warning applies to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is silent on this matter, there are no negative travel recommendations to these countries on the pages.

“In terms of freedom of travel, we are still very far from normal,” said Schallenberg. According to him, in Austria cases of corneavirus infections have already been registered, caused by carriers coming from the western Balkans. Also in Slovenia and Croatia there are more and more outbreaks of infections brought from this region.

As the head of Austrian diplomacy emphasized, the situation in the Western Balkans in recent days and weeks “was developing not so positively. Unfortunately, we are dealing with the opposite“.

The sixth degree of warning given means that Austrians should “leave urgently” the countries concerned. Coronavirus testing or 14-day quarantine is currently mandatory for those arriving from these countries.

Austria extends its warning to Serbia and Montenegro is contrary to the decision taken on Tuesday by the European Union to abolish the entry bans imposed as a result of to 13 non-EU countries, including Serbia and Montenegro.

However, Schallenberg pointed out that this is only a recommendation.

The minister declared that he was aware that the effects of the warning could be painful – especially for those who would be affected by vacation plans.

Montenegro opens borders to Poles

At yesterday’s meeting, the government in Podgorica decided to open the country’s borders to citizens of the European Union. Travelers will not be required to have a COVID-19 test (required so far), and there is no quarantine obligation. Residents of European Union countries can enter Montenegro through countries that are not EU Member States, but only if they are passing through them.

At the same time, new restrictions on social distance have been introduced: due to the high epidemiological risk associated with some meetings, the organization of private meetings – weddings, graduation and birthday celebrations will be banned from July 1. Night clubs and discos will be closed. The restrictions are to apply for the next seven days, after which a decision will be made to suspend or extend them.
