Coronavirus: Amazon stops delivery of “lower priority” orders

The company wishes to focus on the products most in demand during this pandemic period linked to the new coronavirus. Amazon will stop taking orders deemed “lower priority” on its French and Italian sites, we learned on Saturday.

“We must focus available capacity on the highest priority items and, as of today, temporarily stop taking orders for certain products,” the group said in a statement. Employees at our distribution centers will focus on receiving and shipping the products customers need most today. ”

It is thus hygiene or basic products for the home which will have priority, as it is already the case in the United States. This policy applies to all new orders. Those that have already been passed will be honored. Only products ordered directly from Amazon or from third-party sellers who instruct Amazon to store and ship the goods are affected.

Third party sellers can still deliver

Other third-party sellers, not going through Amazon logistics, continue to operate normally. “Customers can continue to order many of these products from third-party sellers who can ship them directly,” said the online sales specialist.

The containment measures, implemented in France since Tuesday noon, have exploded orders on e-commerce sites. But the unions denounce the endangerment of staff at work in the midst of a pandemic.

According to Amazon management, the distribution sites are subject to an increase in the frequency of cleaning and additional hygiene measures. The company claims to have fitted out workplaces and break rooms to respect the necessary distance, in accordance with the directives of the French authorities.
