Dakar, August 18 (APS) – The Ministry of Health on Tuesday recorded 68 new infections of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, officially bringing to 12,305 the number of people infected with the virus since its appearance in the country on 2 March.
These new contaminations were detected from tests carried out on samples taken from 926 individuals, i.e. a positivity rate of 7.34%, said Doctor El Hadji Mamadou Ndiaye.
Speaking during the daily update on the disease broadcast live on public television, RTS, the Director of Prevention stressed that 41 among the new infections affect people followed by the health services.
Two new imported cases were also recorded at Blaise Diagne de Diass International Airport (AIBD), while the 25 others were from community transmission. Cases of contamination at an unknown source located in various parts of the country.
Dr Ndiaye said no deaths had been recorded in the past 24 hours, also signaling the additional recovery of 39 patients.
Almost six months after its appearance in Senegal, the new coronavirus has infected 12,305 people and caused 256 deaths, while 7,767 people have recovered.
As of today, 4,281 patients, including 48 in serious condition, are under observation in the various treatment centers dedicated to the disease across the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Action.
