Corona: When the stores run out of breath | NDR.de – News – Schleswig-Holstein

Status: March 20, 2021 2:48 p.m.

One year after the start of the corona pandemic, many businesses are no longer able to do so. Even a traditional shop from Linau has to close.

That’s it. For Anke’s Trachtengalerie in Linau (Duchy of Lauenburg district) it doesn’t go any further. The small shop couldn’t cope with the long corona lockdowns and is now closing.

Bankruptcies are increasing

And the shop in Linau is only one of hundreds that this happens to. For the current year, the credit agency Crifbürgel expects a strong increase in bankruptcies nationwide due to the corona pandemic. The number of company bankruptcies could more than double compared to 2020. It is said that a total of 35,500 company bankruptcies are possible. The credit agency expects more than 1,500 corporate insolvencies for Schleswig-Holstein.

Abandoned after 62 years

And it also affects many who have been with us for decades. Anke’s Trachtengalerie is an institution. For 62 years, the business had a very good reputation nationwide. Nina Säcker took over the business from her parents seven years ago. “Unfortunately, I had to file for bankruptcy in November. We tried to reorganize under self-administration. But with the second lockdown we were unable to generate any more sales. Because our goods can only be sold by trying them on on site,” describes Säcker.

The lockdown was too long

Until the end, Nina Säcker tried everything to save the business. It was only with the Corona emergency aid last year that she also took out a loan. But the lockdown was just too long in the end.

The sale in her shop has started. Customers only come to the store by appointment because the boss serves alone. The 26 employees are on short-time work. Regular customer Doris Breese has been coming regularly with her husband from Hamburg for 35 years. “I almost had tears in my eyes when I found out about it,” she says of the business closure.

Nina Säcker does not yet know when she will finally close her shop. She now hopes to get out of bankruptcy without debt.
