Düsseldorf is planning a representative test
The city of Düsseldorf is planning a representative corona antibody test. An investigation of a sample of 1000 Düsseldorf residents for the presence of antibodies against the virus is planned, according to a statement by the state capital on Wednesday (May 6th, 2020).
The tests should enable an assessment of the number of infections to be overcome. The city is cooperating with the Düsseldorf University Hospital on the test. The investigation should start as soon as possible, the office for statistics and elections determines the required subjects.
Corona test result via SMS
As of now, the City of Düsseldorf’s Health Department will inform people who have tested negative by SMS about their Corona test results. The finding can be communicated about 48 hours after the throat swab. In addition to the negative test result, those affected also receive a link with the SMS. This leads to further information and recommendations for action.
People who have tested positive will continue to be notified by telephone from the Health Department. In this case, an ordinance against the infected must always be issued.
Couples get married in the Düsseldorf drive-in cinema

Inpatient places for people in need of care in Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf residents in need of care at home can now be admitted to the hospital temporarily. The city and Caritas have restored an earlier care facility for this purpose. Refugee home under quarantine
The city put the 140 residents of a refugee home in the Mörsenbroich district under quarantine on Sunday afternoon (May 3rd, 2020). Six residents had tested positive for the corona virus. They were placed in urban quarantine facilities. One person had to be taken to the hospital and is in the intensive care unit there. The remaining residents are not allowed to leave the accommodation for two weeks and are now being cared for by the Red Cross. Today the city wants to cut back on the spot.
Düsseldorf Rheinkirmes officially canceled
The Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf will not take place in the usual form this year. The Sebastianus shooters confirmed this as the organizer on Wednesday (April 29, 2020). The Düsseldorf showmen’s association hopes for another variant of the fair and has submitted several suggestions to the city. However, the chairman of the showmen did not want to reveal exactly how they look.

Regional breweries in crisis
The brewers are suffering from the corona crisis. Regional breweries are particularly badly affected. The Altbier brewers in Düsseldorf rely on the sale of draft beer, but this is currently rarely drunk. The sale of bottled beer has increased slightly, but sales of draft beer have almost completely collapsed.

North Rhine-Westphalia’s largest airport in Dusseldorf threatens to cut jobs due to the effects of the corona pandemic. According to a proposal by the management, around 600 jobs will be lost from next year – that would be about every fourth job. A supervisory board meeting on Tuesday ended on April 28, 2020 with no result.
Airport expects long-term decline
An airport spokesman did not want to comment on specific figures. Currently, only around five percent of the usual 600 flight movements are handled at Düsseldorf Airport. The apron is now a parking lot with 90 machines.
Due to the Corona crisis, long-term traffic decline is expected at the airport: According to the current status, the crisis will result in traffic declines of 20 to 30 percent in the coming years.
Parents demonstrated in front of the state parliament
In front of the Düsseldorf State Parliament, some parents demonstrated on Tuesday (April 28th, 2020) for the faster opening of schools, daycare centers and playgrounds. The slogans on the posters were like “Parents in crisis” or “Children need children” to read. 25 people were approved and four families with children had come.
According to one participant, it was not about opening everything again immediately. Two days a day in the day would help her and her husband to cope better with everyday family life alongside the job.
Quarantined refugee accommodation
On Monday afternoon (April 27, 2020), the Düsseldorf Health Department placed a refugee accommodation in the Heerdt district under quarantine. Four of the 75 residents had tested positive for the Corona virus. You and four others who belong to the risk group were moved elsewhere. The remaining residents are not allowed to leave the accommodation for 14 days. The same applies to 48 people in an emergency shelter in Hilden. There was also a resident tested positive for Corona on Monday.
Rheinbahn back in normal operation
The Düsseldorf Rheinbahn has been running according to the normal timetable since Monday (April 27th, 2020). However, a number of requirements still apply. Entry to the driver remains, and no tickets are sold in the vehicles.
Service employees accompany the boarding at central stops so that there is enough space in the vehicles to keep the distance. Since last week, the Rheinbahn has also been distributing mouth-nose protective masks to increase protection against infection.
Gastronomy protests in Düsseldorf
On Friday (April 24th, 2020), restaurateurs lined up hundreds of empty chairs in front of the Düsseldorf City Hall – as a sign of the precarious situation of the gastronomy in Corona times. Also in Neuss and many other cities in NRW restaurateurs protested against conditions. The hotel and restaurant association fears that every second catering business could go bankrupt.
Düsseldorf University extends standard period of study
To compensate for disadvantages caused by the pandemic, the Heinrich Heine University has extended the standard period of study for the courses by one semester. Since normal teaching cannot take place at the moment, the summer semester started with online lectures. Deadlines for homework can also be extended.
Demonstration against school start
In front of the State Chancellery in Düsseldorf, fifteen students protested on Monday (April 20, 2020) that the schools would be gradually reopened. More participants were not allowed due to the Corona ban on contact. The organizers say they have received hundreds of messages from schoolchildren on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter saying that they have parents, grandparents, siblings or are themselves part of the risk group. Because of Corona: Invictus-Games in Düsseldorf probably not until 2023
The Invictus Games for war-injured soldiers, founded by the British Prince Harry, will probably only take place a year later than planned due to the Corona crisis. The games scheduled for this year in The Hague have already been postponed to 2021. The Invictus Games scheduled for 2022 in Düsseldorf could also take place a year later. This emerges from the response of the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVG) to a request from the FDP.
