Corona Virus Infection in India Has Dropped Drastically Even though Vaccinations have not been carried out

INDOZONE.ID – Infection corona virus in India has been down rapidly since September, India it only reports about 11,000 new cases every day compared to 100,000 previously.

Quoted from The Sun, India has reported nearly 11 million cases and more than 155,000 deaths.

But now experts are baffled by the sudden decline seen in almost all regions. The decline was even before vaccination, because India only started giving vaccine injections in January.

There are many theories suggesting that Indians may have pre-existing protection from the virus.

The Indian government linked the drop in cases Covid-19 with the use of masks, which is mandatory in India. Those who disobey will be fined in some cities.

But experts note the situation is more complicated than this.

“If we don’t know why, you might be unconsciously doing things that can cause turmoil,” says Dr. Shahid Jameel, who studied the virus at India’s Ashoka University.

Not only that, in recent weeks hospitals in India have also not received high Covid-19 patients, which means that the spread of the virus has slowed down.

Whereas in November, hospitals in New Delhi, 90 were full of patients infected with the corona virus.

Meanwhile, last Thursday, only 16 percent of the hospital beds were filled with Covid-19 patients.

Vineeta Bal, who studies the immune system at India’s National Institute of Immunology, said herd immunity could be reached to the threshold at which a sufficient number of people have developed immunity to the virus, either by falling ill or being vaccinated.

Bal refers to a recent survey in Manaus, Brazil, which estimated that more than 75% of people there had antibodies to the virus in October, before cases spiked again in January.

“I don’t think anyone has the final answer,” he said.

The virus is moving more slowly in rural interior areas, with infection rates in Indian cities much higher than in smaller villages.

While declining cases and deaths indicate that the worst pandemic is over in India, the emergence of a new variant presents another challenge.
