Corona virus in Switzerland – “A reproduction number above 1 is an alarm sign” – News

  • In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, 69 new infections with the corona virus were reported within one day.
  • 18, 44, 52, 58, 69: The rise in the last few days is worrying the Swiss. The head of the Corona Task Force is concerned.
  • Previously, BAG director Pascal Strupler had also appealed to the population via tweet to strictly adhere to the hygiene measures.

Matthias Egger, head of the federal scientific corona task force, is concerned about the rising number of corona infections in Switzerland. Not only the increasing number of cases, but also the number of reproductions, which is an important factor in the current state of the corona pandemic, are cause for concern.

At 1.28, the number of reproductions is now well above 1.

Egger: “At 1.28, the number of reproductions, the number that indicates how many people are infected by a newly infected person, is now significantly higher than 1.”

A reproduction number above 1 is an alarm sign, says Egger: “The epidemic continues to spread and is not stable.” That is even more worrying because the number of newly infected people does not come from today. According to Egger, the current increase in infections is due to earlier opening steps – for example, the opening of the borders on June 15.

So will it only get worse? Egger: “It is currently not clear.” Like Federal Councilor Berset, the head of the Corona Task Force appeals to the population to strictly adhere to the applicable hygiene rules. Wash your hands and wear masks if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.

From a scientific point of view, there is also reassuring news, says Egger. Although testing is much more, the positive tests have not increased proportionally: “Test activity has increased significantly, but the percentage of positive tests has not increased.”

«Everything else is a free pass for the virus»

In a tweet, BAG director Pascal Strupler also stated that the number of newly infected people has increased again in the past few days. That is worrying. Hygiene and distance despite relaxing the measures are urgent. Everything else is a free pass for the virus.

The BAG had previously warned that you should be particularly careful with picnics and barbecues: “Don’t forget to keep your distance and follow the rules of hygiene and behavior. Do not share drinks or food with others. »

Cases have increased for several days

Federal Councilor Alain Berset also responded to the criticism of the easing in Radio SRF’s Saturday broadcast. He defended the federal policy several times, there are many opinions on this subject, as a Federal Council he is responsible, he listens to everyone, tries to integrate the opinions, but then the Federal Council has to decide: «These reviews are not new. »

Almost 750,000 app users

There is still great interest in the Swiss Covid app, which is intended to enable the tracing of newly infected people. On the first day, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) measured over half a million users. By Saturday, their number had risen to almost 750,000.

According to BAG, 1682 people who had tested positive for Covid-19 had previously died in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The Federal Office refers to the reports that the laboratories and doctors had sent up to Saturday morning as part of the reporting obligation.

The number of tests carried out on Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of Covid-19, has so far totaled 555,315. The result was positive in 6.8 percent of these tests.
