At the beginning of the year, Lower Saxony passed a sad mark: More than 2,000 people have already died with the corona virus. At the same time, vaccinations are picking up speed.
The State Health Office reported twelve more deaths on New Year’s Day. This means that 2,005 people have died from or with the corona virus across the country since the pandemic began. Reliable figures will only be available again in the coming week: the health authorities only transmitted their values irregularly over the holidays and the turn of the year.

The beginning of the year with high numbers, lockdown and vaccinations
But one thing is already clear: the numbers are still very high. It is unlikely that the so-called lockdown will end on January 10 as originally targeted – the discussion is ongoing. During 2020 as “Corona year” goes down in history, will still be strongly influenced by the pandemic in 2021. However, the fight against the virus is now progressing very actively: the vaccinations have started.
More than 3,000 vaccinations in six days
According to the Robert Koch Institute in Lower Saxony, 3,566 people have already been vaccinated. The vaccinations started on December 27th in the districts of Cloppenburg and Osnabrück, and the county of Bentheim followed. The first doses have now been administered in the city of Osnabrück and the Hanover region, as well as in Braunschweig and the districts of Nienburg, Lüneburg, Harburg and Rotenburg (Wümme).

Forward with patience
With the new week, more districts are to be added. However, the current braking factor is the vaccine itself: it is not yet being supplied in the quantities that were announced. Lower Saxony will have to do without the planned 63,000 cans on January 4th. Deliveries will not be made again until January 8th. Even if you would have liked it differently: It is not really surprising that things are jerky at the beginning of a global vaccination campaign. The motto for the beginning of the year is: Forward – with a lot of patience.
