130 million people in the United States have received at least one dose of vaccine for the coronavirus – more than half of all adults. US chief virologist Fauci still sees a “precarious situation” in the country.
Four months after the start of the vaccination campaign in the US, more than half of all adults there have received at least one vaccine dose, according to the CDC.
50.4 percent of adults – around 130 million people – were given at least one dose by Sunday, according to CDC statistics. Almost every third adult is fully vaccinated. In the particularly vulnerable age group 65 and over, 81 percent have received a first dose, around two thirds are fully vaccinated.
Three million cans a day
The White House’s coronavirus working group said it currently has an average of more than three million vaccinations a day. In total, almost 210 million doses of vaccine have been injected in the country with a population of around 330 million. More than 264 million cans have been delivered to date.
Despite the successes, leading virologist Anthony Fauci warned that the country was still in a “precarious position”. Almost a week ago, the US authorities recommended suspending vaccinations with the corona vaccine from US manufacturer Johnson & Johnson because of possible serious side effects.
Johnson & Johnson question will soon be resolved
Fauci told the broadcaster ABC that he assumed that it would be clarified by Friday whether the vaccinations with this vaccine could be resumed. Even if he does not want to pre-empt the decision, he expects a resumption, albeit with restrictions.
The vaccination campaign in the USA began in December. Most of the vaccinations in the USA are made with the active ingredients of the US companies Moderna and Pfizer, the latter developed the preparation together with its German partner BioNTech.
