Patient advocates criticize fronts in the vaccination debate

Patient advocates view the debate about possible disadvantages for unvaccinated people in the next corona wave with concern. “The debate about vaccinations is polarizing. In the meantime there is a rift through society,” said the board member of the Patient Protection Foundation, Eugen Brysch, of the “German Press Agency”. The “front line” has meanwhile arrived at the workplace, even friends and families are affected by the conflicts. “That is why we must put an end to publicly talking about compulsory vaccination or discrimination against unvaccinated people,” demanded Brysch. “The federal and state governments have to rely on facts and information against poisonous polemics,” he added. The federal and state governments will discuss how to proceed in the corona pandemic on Tuesday. The focus of the political debate is the question of how more people can be induced to vaccinate – and whether there should be restrictions for those who are not vaccinated.

Tunisia vaccinates more than half a million people a day

The vaccination campaign is picking up speed in Tunisia. The Ministry of Health reports 551.00 vaccinations within 24 hours. The country is struggling with overcrowded intensive care units and emergency rooms as a result of the virus. To date, Tunisia has recorded more than 20,000 deaths and over 610,000 coronavirus infections. The slow pace of vaccinations and the handling of the pandemic had sparked protests against the government of Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, as a result of which he was ousted by President Kais Saied two weeks ago. According to the ministry, 50 percent of the 11.6 million residents should have been vaccinated by mid-October.

Blume calls for new corona rules – the unvaccinated in view

CSU General Secretary Markus Blume is optimistic that the Prime Ministers will be able to agree on a new corona set of rules with new incidences at their conference with the Chancellor on Tuesday. “It is important – regardless of any election campaign – that we agree on the further set of rules,” said Blume in the political talk of the newspaper “Bild”. He is confident that this will succeed. In the case of “drastically increasing new infections” it could happen that there would have to be restrictions for those who were tested. With this, Blume contradicts the CDU chairman and candidate for chancellor of the Union, Armin Laschet, on the question of equal treatment of vaccinated and tested people. “The state must not exclude anyone who has been vaccinated, recovered or tested from participating in social life,” says Laschet.

Restaurants and cafés in France only have a health pass

In France, from this Monday, restaurant visits and train travel are only allowed with proof of corona vaccination, recovery or a negative test. The stricter health rules are to apply to people over the age of 18 until mid-November. Against the controversial measures with which France’s head of state Emmanuel Macron wants to fight the rising corona infections, over 200,000 people across the country demonstrated again only at the weekend. Proof of a full vaccination, recovery or negative test is now mandatory in restaurants, cafes, trains, long-distance coaches, airplanes, at trade fairs and in health facilities. The negative test must not be more than 72 hours ago. For health workers, a mandatory vaccination comes into force on Monday. The digital health pass has been required in cinemas, museums and at major events since mid-July.

Six corona cases on cruise ship in the Mediterranean

Several corona cases have been discovered on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. As the shipping company Costa Crociere announced, six members of two families tested positive on the ship “Costa Smeralda”, which docked in Marseille on Sunday. The infected and six other contact persons were isolated from the other passengers until they disembarked in the French port city. The infected passengers were said to belong to a group of 180 vacationers who had taken a week-long Mediterranean cruise with stops in Spain and Italy. All participants had to present a negative corona test when they boarded a week ago in Marseille. A second test was made midway through the voyage. But then a passenger with a fever reported to the crew, as announced by Costa Crociere. All accompanying persons were therefore immediately tested. Because those affected did not want to disembark in Italy, they were isolated on the ship until their return to Marseille and taken home in ambulance after disembarking. The French regional health authority confirmed the “safe disembarkation” of the passengers concerned.
