Draft for consultations with the federal states: Federal government wants to increase corona aid

In view of the expected tough lockdown, the federal government is planning a significant expansion of corona aid for companies and relief, especially for retailers. In the so-called bridging aid III, the maximum amount is to be increased from 200,000 euros to 500,000 euros, as emerges from a draft resolution for the Bund-Länder-Round with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) sent by the Federal Chancellery to the federal states. The draft proposes that the retail trade, with the exception of shops for daily needs, be closed from December 16 to January 10. According to information from the German Press Agency, there was an agreement between Economy Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) on the planned higher financial aid from the federal government. According to the paper, the maximum grant of 500,000 euros for bridging aid III is planned for companies that are directly and indirectly affected by closings. For these companies there should also be advance payments similar to those for November and December aid.

In a draft resolution sent by the Federal Chancellery to the federal states in the morning for the Bund-Länder-Round with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) from 10 a.m. it is proposed that the retail trade, with the exception of shops for daily needs, from December 16 to January 10 close. For the same period of time, the draft available to several media recommends contact restrictions at schools and daycare centers: “During this time, children should be cared for at home whenever possible. Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble still expects changes in the order in which the population in Germany is to be vaccinated against the corona virus. “The recommendation of the experts will certainly be refined,” said the CDU politician of “Welt am Sonntag”. “Personally, I would prioritize the people who have to work with infected people or who have to do with the elderly and the sick. They have an extremely high risk of contracting Corona. And if too many doctors and nurses are absent, they stand we face a huge problem. ” Last Monday, the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) sent a draft to countries and medical societies. It is therefore recommended that vaccinations should initially be offered to groups of people with a particularly high risk of serious or fatal disease progression – as well as groups who are particularly exposed at work or who have close contact with risk groups.

At the same time, there is often great uncertainty about which rules apply in the place where one is currently staying. The new version of the warning app NINA will in future also offer important content in seven foreign languages ​​as well as in light German. In addition to information on the corona pandemic, it provides warning messages from more than 250 rescue control centers across Germany. Often it is about storms, fires or bombs.

Marburger Bund appeals to employers: enable home office

In view of the high number of coronavirus infections, the Marburger Bund appeals to employers to enable their employees to work from home. “Wherever possible, employers should immediately let their employees do their work from home,” said the first chairwoman of the medical association, Susanne Johna, of the German press agency. “Working from home, wherever possible, will also mean that in this critical phase fewer people come together in full buses and trains in the mornings and evenings and infect each other.” The high number of infections required quick and consistent action, says Johna. The risk of overloading the health system is real in many regions, although postponed interventions are no longer carried out in most hospitals. “Anything that helps to reduce the number of infections quickly will relieve us in the hospitals and save lives.”

RKI reports 20,200 new infections and 321 further deaths nationwide

In Germany, more than 20,000 new infections with the corona virus were recorded within one day. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Sunday morning, citing information from the health authorities, 20,200 new cases of infection were recorded within 24 hours. Around 17,700 new infections were registered last Sunday. According to the RKI, the number of corona deaths rose within one day by 321 to a total of 21,787. Since not all health authorities transmit data on the weekend, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower on Sundays and Mondays than on other days of the week. The highest numbers to date for Germany were reported on Friday with 29,875 new infections and 598 corona deaths.
