Vaccinations are also possible in many places between public holidays

In order to advance the fight against the coronavirus, vaccinations should continue unabated in most federal states between the holidays. “The cities are doing everything to ensure that there are also test and vaccination offers between Christmas and New Years”, assured the chief executive of the German Association of Cities, Helmut Dedy, at the request of the German press agency. Some countries even want to immunize their citizens on the holidays. Usually, however, there is a three-day Christmas break.

Because about corona protests: “There are limits”

Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) has warned opponents of the corona measures against the background of increasing radicalization to adhere to the laws. The security authorities followed the development very closely, said the SPD politician of the German press agency. “Right-wing extremist circles in particular need to know that the state will not be afraid to take rigorous action. Everyone should have the opportunity to express their opinion. But there are limits, and we in Lower Saxony will clearly point them out and sanction violations.” Interior Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) said a week ago that although there have not yet been any concrete indications of attacks from the milieu of those who trivialize the corona, as with any radicalization, attacks cannot be ruled out.

Vaccination with music in Hanover and Bremen

During a vaccination campaign in the Hanover stadium, a Christmas atmosphere should arise in the afternoon from 3 p.m. Musicians play traditional Advent and Christmas carols, a gospel ensemble sings gospel and pop songs. The organizers announced this. Several vaccination routes are planned in the stadium’s premises. Children from the age of five, adolescents and adults are vaccinated. The organizers ask for a registration.

With disco music, young people from the age of twelve can get vaccinated against corona from 6 p.m. today in Bremen. As the health department announced, DJs will play age-appropriate beats. According to the spokesman, there are also non-alcoholic cocktails. “With such a special offer, we want to offer young people who want to be vaccinated an attractive environment and thus perhaps create an additional incentive,” said Health Senator Claudia Bernhard (Linke). Registration is also required here.

Ethics Council advocates expansion of the compulsory vaccination

The German Ethics Council advocates expanding the recently decided corona vaccination requirement for staff in sensitive facilities to “significant parts of the population”. However, this must be flanked by a number of measures, according to a recommendation by the advisory body, which was adopted by a majority. In addition to nationwide vaccination offers and sufficient vaccines, the vaccine should – as far as possible – be freely chosen. Direct invitations with personalized appointments, a secure national vaccination register and understandable information are also recommended.

However, the Ethics Council differed in terms of the scope and the precise structure of an extended vaccination requirement. 13 of the 20 members advocated an expansion to all adults living in Germany who could be vaccinated. Seven members spoke out in favor of restricting the mandatory vaccination to adults who are particularly vulnerable with regard to Covid-19 – such as the elderly or those with previous illnesses. Employees in facilities with vulnerable people such as clinics and nursing homes must submit proof of vaccination or convalescence by March 15, 2022.

Bund-Länder summit: These are the most important resolutions

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced the following resolutions by the federal and state governments yesterday evening after the consultations with the prime ministers – they should apply nationwide by December 28 at the latest.

  • Private meetings of those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered limited to a maximum of ten people – especially with a view to New Year’s Eve. Children under the age of 14 are not included in this rule. For those who have not been vaccinated, the stricter rule that they can meet a maximum of two people from another household also applies over Christmas.
  • Supraregional sports, cultural and comparable major events may only take place without spectators from December 28th at the latest.
  • Clubs and discos indoors are closed.

Some federal states in the north implement the resolutions by December 24th. It is not known how long the new regulations will apply. The next federal-state meeting is to take place on January 7, 2022.
