EMA reviews adapted omicron vaccines

In the fight against the corona virus, the European Medicines Agency EMA wants to examine the approval of advanced vaccines adapted to new variants of the virus. The meeting of the EMA Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) addresses applications from Biontech / Pfizer and the US company Moderna for approval of vaccines that protect against the original Sars-CoV-2 and Omicron BA underlines.1 should offer. In Germany, these viruses no longer play a role. However, the hope is that this vaccine will also work better against the Omicron strains currently in circulation. The European Commission may want to accept the EMA’s recommendation very promptly.

In the case of corona vaccinations, the federal government plans to start in September with advanced vaccines for the new virus variants. Subject to planned approval across the EU, approximately 14 million doses of Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna are expected to arrive in the two weeks starting September 5, which are adapted to the BA.1 variant. This emerges from a letter from the Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD).

EMA is also looking into the approval of corona vaccines adapted to the current variants of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5. If the European Commission approves these vaccines in late September or early October, Germany will also be supplied “very quickly” by Biontech / Pfizer with a first tranche of 9.5 million doses, Lauterbach said in the letter. .

RKI: The seven-day incidence in Hamburg is now 101.6

In Hamburg, the seven-day incidence of new coronary infections is currently 101.6. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported this early this morning. The Hanseatic city therefore continues to have the lowest number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week nationwide. Yesterday the value was 142.6. The RKI did not have data on new laboratory confirmed coronal cases.

4,392 new crown cases reported in Lower Saxony

According to the Robert Koch Institute, another 4,392 cases of corona have been reported in the state of Lower Saxony (yesterday: 5,431). The seven-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 population is currently 265.9 – and is therefore again lower than the previous day (277.2).

The seven-day incidence nationwide drops to 237.3

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has the seven-day incidence nationwide in the morning was 237.3. Yesterday the value of new coronary infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 243.7 (previous week: 271.3 / previous month: 538.9). Health authorities in Germany reported 39,396 new corona infections to RKI (yesterday: 49,303 / previous week: 49,201) and 90 deaths (previous week: 116) in one day. The RKI has counted 32,184,553 confirmed Sars-CoV-2 infections since the start of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

The incidence of corona in Schleswig-Holstein increased slightly: another eight deaths

The incidence of corona in Schleswig-Holstein increased slightly from the previous day. According to the state registration office, the number of new infections registered per 100,000 people within seven days was 237.4. The previous day the value was 236.2 – but Wednesday of last week it was still 294.5. Another eight deaths per crown were reported within one day. A total of 1,385 new coronary infections were reported in the country, up from 1,745 the week before. In the clinics 290 people are treated for the virus (previous week: 301). There are 24 corona patients in the ICU, 3 more than a week earlier. 13 of them are ventilated. The incidence of hospitalizations is 4.16, higher than the day before. It indicates how many patients per 100,000 population were admitted to hospitals with a coronavirus infection within a week. A week earlier, that number was 6.01.

Note on current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infectious situation. Experts assume a large number of cases not registered by RKI, mainly because not all infected people have performed a PCR test. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. Furthermore, delayed recordings or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections recorded varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases throughout the week.

Braunschweig: the clinic tests the patient room of the future

Experts designed the patient room of the future on the grounds of the Braunschweig municipal clinic. In the research and study laboratory, experts from the fields of architecture, materials research and medicine have developed practical solutions for hospital architecture. According to the information, the importance of the patient room has emerged in recent years, due to the increase in infections from multidrug-resistant pathogens and the corona pandemic. Smart spatial planning should help prevent the transmission of dangerous germs. The project is expected to last five years. To this end, the Technical University of Braunschweig, the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Film and the Municipal Clinic have joined forces.
