Corona bonuses can be improved

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has announced improvements to the Corona premium for nursing staff. The original decision was made months ago with a view to the infection process in spring, said the minister on ZDF. After the second wave of infections and the extreme stress for a large number of nursing staff, there must be further compensation, said Spahn. About 70 percent of the hospitals in Germany did not meet the original criteria for a corona premium. In the meantime, however, many of them are significantly more exposed than in spring.

Medical officers demand a ban on Christmas services

The medical officers have called for a nationwide ban on Christmas services. Presence church services on the holidays should be prohibited by the federal and state governments because of the coronavirus risk, said the chairwoman of the Federal Association of Doctors in the Public Health Service, Ute Teichert, the newspapers of the Funke media group. It is known that the Sars-CoV-2 virus can easily be transmitted during church services. Therefore “no additional risk” should be taken. The Catholic Church in Germany announced at the beginning of the week that it wanted to hold on to the Christmas services – but hygiene concepts and protective measures had to be strictly adhered to, demanded the Berlin Archbishop Heiner Koch on behalf of the German Bishops’ Conference. The Protestant Church in Westphalia had previously urgently recommended that its congregations refrain from all attendance services for the time being.

Dehoga MV: “2021 will also be a very, very difficult year”

The Hotel and Restaurant Association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Dehoga) has warned against overly high expectations for the coming tourism and gastronomy year. That applies even if the vaccinations against the coronavirus could start as planned and without major difficulties. “The year 2021 will be a very, very difficult year for us,” said association president Lars Schwarz of the German press agency. He reckons that, even if things go well, it will take until the third quarter for enough people to be vaccinated to be able to speak of sufficient travel. In the hospitality industry, there were losses of up to a third compared to 2019, estimates Schwarz. But that is only an average, because the organizers, clubs or discotheques have almost not been able to generate any sales. For many restaurants and pubs, it is true that the good main summer season has saved a lot.

Exit restrictions in Grafschaft Bentheim from today

The Grafschaft Bentheim is the first district in Lower Saxony to use nightly exit restrictions to contain the corona pandemic. For the first time, starting this evening at 9 p.m., citizens should not leave their apartments and properties until the next morning (5 a.m.). There are exceptions for professional or medical reasons, and walking the dog is still allowed. On Christmas Eve, the restrictions do not apply until 10 p.m. The measure is initially valid until January 12th. The district had decided on the restrictions after more than 200 people per 100,000 inhabitants became infected with the coronavirus within seven days.

Visits to nursing homes in Hamburg only with a negative test

From today, visits to the Hamburg retirement and nursing homes are mostly only possible if a negative corona test is presented. The red-green Senate decided yesterday that visitors must test accordingly. Residents of care facilities are particularly at risk. Therefore, it must be ruled out that visitors carry an infection into the homes, said the health authority. In order to avoid hardship over Christmas, an exception rule applies until December 28th: If rapid tests cannot be carried out in facilities, visits are still possible if residents and visitors wear an FFP2 mask at all times and strictly adhere to the hygiene concepts. The exception should only be used cautiously and in emergencies.
