Corona news: catering and culture open until ten o’clock in the evening

The advice of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) to combat the corona virus too often lacks sufficient scientific substantiation, says Armand Girbes, professor of intensive care medicine. “Politics and science are starting to get mixed up a lot, which is gradually giving me quite a bit of annoyance,” says Girbes, who is also a clinical pharmacologist and head of IC at the VUmc.

“If there is no scientific substantiation for a very specific advice, with political interference, then it has a high degree of fingertip content. But the effects of scientifically unfounded advice on society are quite large,” says the professor. He gives as an example the leaked OMT advice that the catering industry may open until no later than 8 p.m.
