‘Corona mutation’ found in California, USA

On the 30th (local time), officials are conducting an epidemiological investigation at a nursing facility in Shimla, Colorado, where a man in his 20s belonging to the Colorado National Guard, the first person infected with a novel coronavirus mutation (B.1.1.7) in the United States, was recently dispatched to work support. . © AFP=News1

The state of California, which has the largest population in the United States, also has a mutated novel coronavirus infection.

According to USA Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom held a video conference with Anthony Pouch, head of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), held on the afternoon of the 30th (local time). The first case of infection was confirmed.”

This is the second time that a new coronavirus mutation’B.1.1.7′ infection has been reported in the United States, following Colorado the day before. However, Governor Opensom did not disclose details such as the identity of the B.1.1.7 infected person identified in California.

This novel coronavirus mutation, named’B.1.1.7′ (VUI-202012/01), was first reported in the UK in September, and so far, about 30 in Asia, Europe, the Americas, including Korea, the United States, and Japan. Infected people have emerged from countries and regions.

Experts believe that B.1.1.7 has a low fatality rate compared to the existing novel coronavirus, but its spreading power is about 70% stronger. For this reason, there are also observations that the re-proliferation of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in each country in the second half of this year is related to this mutant virus.

According to national health authorities, most of the B.1.1.7 infected patients reported to date are known to have recently been to the UK or have been in contact with people who have been to the UK.

However, an infection case in Colorado, and the B.1.1.7 infection reported in Ontario, Canada on the 26th, are presumed to be local infection cases without such travel history. It is said that there is a possibility that the virus may have spread in many countries for several months.

In response, Pouch also said at a meeting that day, the B.1.1.7 infection was “expected” in Colorado and California. “In the future, we will see cases like this in more states.”

However, Mr. Pouch said, “The novel coronavirus is an RNA virus that continues to mutate and lives,” and “the vaccine developed so far will have a preventive effect.”
