Corona measures: Söder brings border controls into play

In the fight against the corona pandemic, CSU boss Markus Söder has called for a uniform approach in Germany and Europe. “Too many differentiations and differences confuse people and weaken acceptance,” said the Bavarian Prime Minister of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “What is fair is what applies to everyone. We need a robust concept that applies everywhere in Germany.”

“Has already helped effectively in the spring”

“The best thing would be a uniform European strategy in the fight against corona. Should this not continue to succeed, border controls would make sense,” he said. “That already helped effectively in the spring. It doesn’t last forever. If there is more vaccine, the situation can improve quickly.”

In view of the tense situation, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the heads of government of the states want to discuss possible further restrictions for citizens in the pandemic on Tuesday. Söder said: “The basic problem in our handling of the pandemic was often that the countermeasures were taken too late and then loosened too early.”

Lockdown so far only “half the dose”

The lockdown light was not a mistake. “But it was only half the dose of what is needed.” It would weaken efforts if decisions made together in Berlin were only implemented half-heartedly and in different ways.
