Fortunately, there are constants in America’s largest city. Whether in the sunshine or in the snow: Every day Robert Burck strips down to his white underpants, takes a position on New York’s Times Square and hopes for generous tips. Turned 50 in December, the famous “naked cowboy” is not thinking of giving up his role as a photo subject and tourist magnet. He told a reporter in December: “You gotta do what you gotta do!”
Unfortunately there are almost no tourists anymore. Because of Covid, practically no one is allowed to enter from abroad, and American visitors are also rare. Anyone who lives in New York would never have thought how much the city relies on the annoying hordes of tourists. The joy that double-decker buses are now hardly clogging the streets and polluting the air is missed.
