+++ 15.58 p.m .: After the Robert Koch Institute, the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs announced the detailed Corona case numbers for the districts and cities in the state. Accordingly, there were 1,923 new infections with the coronavirus from Thursday (April 15, 2021) to Friday (April 16, 2021), and 20 more people died after being infected.
Offenbach is still hardest hit by the corona pandemic in the region, where the incidence fell compared to the previous day, but it is still very high with a value of 247.9. This is followed by the Main-Kinzig district with 170.7, the Bergstrasse district (160.9) and the Offenbach district (156.3). In the latter, three other people died after being infected with the virus.

Current corona case numbers for Offenbach and the region
In addition to the ministry, the health authorities have also published their own figures. These are usually more up-to-date. The responsible health department reported 52 new corona infections for Offenbach. 45 people from Offenbach are currently being treated in the hospital, three people are in critical condition and the others are stable. The district announced this in a message.
The health department of the Main-Kinzig district registered 109 confirmed new infections with the corona virus and one further death. In the hospitals in Hanau, Gelnhausen and Schlüchtern, a total of 76 patients receive medical care in connection with Covid-19. Seventeen people require intensive care and seven patients rely on a ventilator.
Corona in the region: MKK health department head sounds the alarm
MKK health department head Susanne Simmler rated the infection as “extremely worrying”. “We are seeing persistent negative trends in many areas. The number of free intensive care beds is close to zero. In about every third infection, it cannot be determined where the infection took place. We see individual outbreaks in companies and daycare centers, but the virus is essentially spreading across the board, in all generations, more frequently among the more mobile younger people, in all municipalities and primarily through private contacts, “said the first district councilor on Friday (April 16. 2021) summarized the “extremely tense situation for the systems of the health sector”.
To a greater extent than a few weeks ago, it is a matter of ensuring intensive medical care: “The number of infections today is the corona numbers in one to two weeks and the burden on hospitals in around four weeks. Unfortunately, relaxation is not in sight at all. ”
The Odenwaldkreis announced that 29 more positive corona test results were registered. There was no death. Twelve patients are cared for in the corona wards of the health center. Four of them require intensive medical treatment. There are two more patients in clinics outside the district. Groups from the Mümling-Grumbach kindergarten and a group from the Schatzinsel daycare center in Brensbach are affected by quarantine.
Corona in the region: incidence values remain high – daycare emergency care remains in place
+++ 2.20 p.m .: The planned change to the Corona Infection Protection Act by the federal government is also forcing the state of Hesse to act – with an impact on schools and daycare centers in the Offenbach region. The current Hessian escalation stage concept, originally scheduled to run until April 18, was extended ahead of schedule to May 9. The concept stipulates that no classroom teaching can take place in schools in regions with a 7-day incidence of 200 or higher. Regular operation in the daycare centers is then no longer possible in these regions. These are only allowed to offer emergency care.
In view of the high corona incidence figures in the city of Offenbach (246.9), the city’s administrative staff has therefore decided to adhere to the emergency operation regulation of Offenbach daycare centers for the time being and to extend this until at least April 30, 2021. The administrative staff reserves the right to return to regular support earlier, as stated in a message from the city. “We really consider everything that is available to us: Infection sites, incidences according to age, occupancy of intensive care beds, dynamics of incidences and more,” says the Mayor of Offenbach, Dr. Felix Schwenke. The focus of the decision-making process is always the “greatest possible protection against a serious illness,” said Schwenke.
Corona in Offenbach: Kita emergency care remains – schools are switching to distance teaching
The general ban on entering daycare centers also remains in place in Offenbach, as the corona incidence of children between the ages of 0 and 6 is above the average for the Offenbach population as a whole. “The virus continues to spread heavily among younger people,” says health director Sabine Groß. “Just as we cannot currently take responsibility for classroom teaching in schools, we cannot allow day-care centers to continue operating normally.”
According to current plans by the state government, students in grades 1 to 6 in Offenbach will have to be prepared for the fact that they will receive distance lessons again from Monday (April 19, 2021), as will the higher school classes. The move away from alternating classes results from the revised Corona escalation level concept.
Corona in Offenbach, Hanau and Darmstadt: Incidence values remain high – RKI with current figures
Update from Friday, April 16, 2021, 6:36 a.m .: The corona situation in Hessen remains tense. Furthermore, all cities and districts in Hesse have a seven-day incidence in the three-digit range. In the region around Offenbach, Hanau and Darmstadt, the city of Offenbach has the highest incidence value with 247.9. The Robert Koch Institute registered 52 new infections with the corona virus in the past 24 hours, according to the RKI’s corona dashboard. The Main-Kinzig district recorded the highest number of new infections in the region with 145 new cases registered. The 7-day incidence is now 170.7.
According to the RKI, the 7-day incidence in the Bergstrasse district is 160.9, where 57 people were infected with the coronavirus within 24 hours. The Offenbach district continues to be affected. In addition to 112 new corona cases, the health department also recorded three new corona-related deaths. In the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, the incidence is 119.5, and there were 48 new infections. 28 new cases were reported in the Darmstadt metropolitan area, the 7-day incidence is 114.5.
Corona in the region: many incidences are increasing – current number of new infections
First report from Thursday, April 15, 2021, 3:51 p.m .: Offenbach – More and more people are infected in Offenbach with the coronavirus. As the health department reports, 74 new infections have been registered for the city. The 7-day incidence is 249.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is slightly lower than the previous day (254.1). In total, there are 736 people in Offenbach who are infected with the corona virus. 45 people from Offenbach are currently being treated in the hospital, three people are in critical condition and the others are stable.
Due to the incidence of over 200, Offenbach has been subject to a curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. since March 31, 2021. This week, two lawsuits against the curfew in Offenbach before the Darmstadt Administrative Court failed. “However, the court has made it clear that we have to justify precisely and that it is examining the exit restrictions very critically,” said Offenbach’s Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD) about the judgment.
According to current regulations, curfews are planned in Hesse if the incidence rises above 200 for three days in a row. With the planned “Federal Emergency Brake”, however, there should be curfews from an incidence of over 100, which would then apply to all Hessian districts according to the current infection situation.

The health department of Main-Kinzig district reported 143 new infections with the coronavirus for Thursday (April 15, 2021). A person died from or with the virus in Rodenbach. The 7-day incidence of the district has risen again – from 165 the day before to now 181. In Hanau, according to the city website, it is 243, the day before it was 177.
Also in Odenwaldkreis the incidence continued to rise. The Robert Koch Institute gives it 140.6 (previous day 130.3). The district’s health department reported 23 new infections on Thursday. According to the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, there are 97 new infections with the corona virus in the Bergstrasse district. The 7-day incidence is now 152.4 (previous day: 134.3).

Im Offenbach district According to the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, 105 people were newly infected with the corona virus. The 7-day incidence rose slightly to 156.5 (previous day 155.4.). In Darmstadt however, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the incidence fell slightly from 117.6 on Wednesday to 112.6. The ministry reported 41 new infections for the city. in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district there were 85 new infections with the coronavirus, the 7-day incidence rose from 114.8 (previous day) to 125.2.
The Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs reported 1,992 new infections and 22 deaths in connection with the corona virus nationwide on Thursday. The 7-day incidence in Hessen increases again: From 162 to 166. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 238,586 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Hesse, and 6,565 have died in connection with the virus.
While more and more people are becoming infected, several people in Hanau are apparently not taking the pandemic very seriously. On Wednesday evening (April 14th, 2021) 24 people celebrated a party in an apartment without paying attention to the Corona rules. The police broke up the celebration around 11:45 p.m. (fme)
