17:21: Duisburg with more and more infected

According to the city, 224 people have been infected with the corona virus in Duisburg. One person died, 31 are in hospital treatment in hospital. 766 contact persons are in quarantine at home.

4:21 pm: Outstanding residents’ campaign in Cologne

Local residents in Cologne-Sülz provided touching scenes on Thursday evening. They had called the police and fire brigade in the evening and asked that a few emergency services should appear on Speestrasse at 9 p.m. on behalf of all their colleagues, and they would like to thank them.

15:22: Duisburg prohibits hamster purchases!

The city of Duisburg has banned hamster purchases by general order! The city announced this on Friday. This is to ensure that customers can find and buy all the products they need for their basic needs. In addition, everyone MUST keep a minimum distance of 1.5 meters when shopping. The requirements initially apply until April 19 inclusive. Violators face high fines.

The city also allows ice cream parlors to take orders and deliver them home. Selling at the counters is still prohibited.

Great news from Oberhausen. The city reports that almost all people have adhered to the imposed contact ban in the past few days. The head of the crisis team, Michael Jehn, praised this: “The crisis team would like to expressly thank all Oberhausen residents. Your sanity and compliance with the ban on contact are impressive and help slow the spread of the virus. ”

1 pm: “Finals Rhein-Ruhr” postponed

The “Finals Rhein-Ruhr 2020” in North Rhine-Westphalia will not take place on the scheduled date due to the coronavirus pandemic. The multi-sport event, which had a successful premiere in Berlin in August 2019, was to be held on the first weekend in June (June 6/7) in the five cities of Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Oberhausen, Aachen and Neuss. In total, competitions were planned in 19 sports with around 3700 athletes. 16 of these were to be held as German championships. In some disciplines, competitions should also count as Olympic qualifications.

12 noon: Schools should open again after Easter break

An end seems to be in sight for the school closings. As school minister Gebauer announced on Friday morning, the aim is to reopen the schools after the Easter holidays on April 20.

11.30 a.m .: Final training exams also postponed

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is also postponing the final written apprenticeship exams planned for April and May in the summer of 2020 due to the corona crisis. Around 210,000 trainees are affected. Up to and including May no IHK advanced training exams can take place either. They should be rescheduled between June and August.

11 a.m .: Abitur exams are postponed

NRW School Minister Yvonne Gebauer has now confirmed that the Abitur exams in North Rhine-Westphalia will be postponed. Almost 90,000 high school graduates will not be able to take their exams as planned from April 20, but – as of now – only from May 12.

10 a.m .: Dramatic increase in the number of cases

The latest publication of the coronavirus case numbers by the NRW Ministry of Health shows: There was again a dramatic increase in infections. NRW now has 11,523 coronavirus cases (as of 10 a.m.), an increase of over 1000 infections in the last 24 hours. After Heinsberg, Cologne also passed the 1000 infection mark. The death toll rises to 85 across the country.
