Corona: Hanau cancels demo to commemorate victims of terrorism

Because of a “sharply increasing number” of corona infections, the city of Hanau has a demonstration planned for Saturday in memory of the victims of the racist attack canceled with nine dead. Organizers and police had expected between 3000 and 5000 participants.

The relatives of the victims should be given the opportunity to speak at an alternative event. This will be limited to a number of participants of 249 people, according to the City website.

“As soon as the number of infections has decreased significantly, we will of course make up for this expression of mourning,” said Hanau’s mayor Claus Kaminsky (SPD) initially let communicate.

The Main-Kinzig-Kreis informed the mayor that “the number of newly infected people per 100,000 inhabitants in Hanau has skyrocketed to 49 in a 7-day review”. He was “shocked by the rapid development of infections”. This means that the threshold for consistent restrictions has been reached.

The “February 19 initiative”, which had called for this, then announced that it would “still not stay calm”. The planned rally will be held with relatives, friends and those affected by racism and anti-Semitism. The possible framework for this is being negotiated with the city of Hanau.

The rally should also be streamed. The speeches begin at 3 p.m.
