Corona: Hamburg expands 2G model from Saturday | NDR.de – News – Hamburg

Hamburg tightened the corona rules: Hamburg’s mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) announced on Tuesday that the 2G model would be expanded from next Saturday.

“Where the risk of infection is simply higher than usual, the 2G regulation must now take effect,” Tschentscher said in the state press conference. From next Saturday, the catering industry will have to select the 2G mode, this applies to restaurants, clubs and bars and brothels, as well as to the catering areas in institutions and at Christmas markets.

No 2G regulation at the hairdresser

Body-hugging services, with the exception of medical treatments and hairdressers, could then only be used according to the 2G model. This also applies to indoor sports. “Wherever vigorous physical activity can lead to too much work of breathing and too much aerosol formation, we want and must now meet this 2G regulation,” said Tschentscher. Leisure choirs and orchestras are also only possible under the 2G model. For the time being, there will be no tightening in retail and local public transport.

Exceptions for children and young people

The 2G model applies to almost everyone – only children and adolescents under the age of 18 and people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons are excluded. With the 2G model, only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered may be admitted. Around 2,000 institutions are already using it in Hamburg. “The 2G model is established, it works,” said Tschentscher. Experience has shown that corona outbreaks are very rare.

Hamburg has the lowest hospitalization rate

Hamburg has the lowest hospitalization rate of all federal states. “We are still in a stable, moderate position, but we have to be careful,” said Tschentscher. That is why the Senate advised that he should continue to rely on vaccination protection. Most infections are in people without full vaccination protection. There are also vaccination breakthroughs, but they are “very rare”. Tschentscher said that even if the vaccination center was closed, the city’s vaccination activity had not been stopped. “We have really overtaken one federal state after the other in vaccination.”

Tschentscher continues to advertise corona vaccinations

This is also due to the fact that Hamburg had “a good vaccination campaign”. “This high vaccination rate is the dike that protects us from the fourth wave,” said Tschentscher. That is the decisive factor in fighting the pandemic – “not testing, but vaccination protects against infections and serious illnesses,” said the mayor. He appealed: “Take advantage of the vaccination offers, opt for this vaccination. It offers the best possible protection in this phase of the pandemic and, above all, it protects us in our healthcare system from being overloaded.”

2G in gastronomy since August

Hamburg was the first federal state to introduce the 2G option model in August for so-called public facilities such as restaurants, bars, cinemas and theaters. Retail and body-hugging services such as hairdressing salons were added later. Excluded from the option model are daily needs such as supermarkets, drugstores or pharmacies as well as educational institutions and institutions for social participation.

Basic understanding of opposition parties

The opposition CDU basically supports the course of the red-green senate. But parliamentary group leader Dennis Thering calls for more speed with the so-called booster vaccinations. “Anyone who wants to, now has to get a vaccination through many low-threshold offers in the city districts, and we will continue to campaign for that,” said Thering on Tuesday. The left also sees it this way: The Senate is wrong if it relies solely on the stricter 2G rules to break the fourth wave, says their health politician Deniz Celik. From the point of view of the AfD, however, unvaccinated people are the scapegoat in the pandemic.

Editor’s note: In an earlier version of the article it was stated that the 2G rule will also be mandatory for cinemas and theaters. However, this is not the case.
