The state capital Schwerin will strengthen protective measures due to the increasing number of corona infections. It is mandatory to wear a mouth and nose cover. Lessons are also being changed in schools. The Ludwigslust-Parchim district is also responding to increasing numbers.
Because of the persistently high number of new infections, a mouth and nose cover must be worn from Thursday in downtown Schwerin. The state capital published a general decree on Wednesday evening. The mask requirement applies until January 4th between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Children up to school enrollment and people with mental and medical impairments or a disability are excluded. In addition, the serving of alcohol is prohibited in the entire city area. Alcohol may not be consumed on the streets, squares and areas of the city center where the mask requirement applies.
Distance lessons from grade 7
In Schwerin, distance lessons will also apply to all pupils from the 7th grade onwards from December 14th. With this measure, the Ludwigslust-Parchim district is also reacting to rising numbers. From next Monday in the week before the Christmas holidays, teaching will take place via the Internet. Students in grades 1 to 6, however, can still go to school regularly. According to the information, teachers in these grades must also wear a mask in class.
Relaxation at Christmas is in question
Yesterday, the health authorities registered a new high of 298 cases – for the second day in a row – in the Mecklenburg Lake District and Schwerin, the weekly incidence numbers rose to more than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the first time. Health Minister Glawe spoke of a dramatic development – stricter measures were necessary – the expansion of contacts to 10 people from different households announced for Christmas and the turn of the year will probably not be sustainable. In the morning there should be a new top round with health experts with Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD).
