Corona crisis: Sarah Wiener files bankruptcy for Berlin restaurants

TV chef Sarah Wiener has filed for bankruptcy for her restaurants in Berlin and for her catering service. “Corona asked a lot of us a lot, including part of my company, my employees … and me,” wrote the 57-year-old in a post on her Facebook page. On Wednesday the bankruptcy for the companies “Das ist Gastronomie”, which included the restaurants in the Museum Hamburger Bahnhof and the Zukunftsmuseum Futurium, and “Das ist Catering”, was submitted, said Sarah Wiener GmbH.

For her, the 30-year catering and gastronomy era will come to an end, Wiener wrote. She thanked her employees. “It is painful that Corona has now caught our gastronomy too.”

The business should continue for the time being, it said in the message from the GmbH. “Since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic in Europe, the frequency and turnover figures in our restaurants have drastically reduced.” The capacities of the companies are limited due to the distance rules, the number of guests has decreased massively due to the slump in tourism. “In fact, there are no more event events.”

According to their information, Vienna’s catering company has around 120 employees. Her company also owns a farm in Brandenburg. The Sarah Wiener Group now wants to concentrate entirely on food production.

The entrepreneur had already expressed concerns about her company in May. “If something doesn’t change quickly and radically, I don’t know if it will survive my gastronomy branch,” she said at the time. “We made six-figure losses in catering, events were canceled until the end of the year. We’re a bit paralyzed and at a loss.”
