Corona crisis in Germany: Chancellor Merkel warns of “disaster” – domestic politics

Corona crisis mood in Berlin – but a lively party atmosphere in China, the country of origin of the global epidemic!

► Yesterday morning, 9 a.m .: Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) speaks (via video switch) with the CDU presidium members. Merkel urged them to underestimate the Robert Koch Institute’s new infection figures, as several participants in the telephone switch reported to BILD: Corona is still “controllable”.

But: The increasing number of infected people – mainly caused by holiday returnees – is “threatening”, she says. There could therefore not be any further easing. And Bundesliga games with an audience – unthinkable!

Merkel fears a catastrophe that could threaten Germany: “You have to pull the reins in order not to run into a disaster with Corona.”

Shortly afterwards, Health Minister Jens Spahn (40, CDU) also expressed concern! It is “surprising how quickly the infection process regains momentum,” says Spahn.

Even in EU countries such as Spain, which “had significantly stricter measures than Germany”. This shows “how fast it can go if you are not careful”. Therefore, it has to be decided again and again how many guests are allowed at family celebrations. The overall goal is that daycare centers and schools can remain open – just like the shops.

► Whole different scenes in Wuhan (Central China).

In the 11 million city of all places, where the epidemic of death began at the end of 2019, thousands of Chinese people dance and hoot to electro-pop in a swimming pool – without masks, close together.

DJs, dancers and a singer bawl from the stage, an artist on a Hoover board floats sparkling over the bouncing crowd – a tight dance party with rubber boats and swimming rings in the jam-packed “Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park”. It’s as if Corona never existed.

The fact is: China got the pandemic under control with brutal exit bans and brutal controls of its 1.4 billion inhabitants – at least according to official figures.

After 76 days of total lockdown, the number of new infections is close to zero. Since April, people have been able to live as “normally” again as is possible in a communist dictatorship.

400 hotels and wellness parks were opened to the general public (discounts of up to 50%).

The regime in Beijing, which suppressed any warning of the epidemic at the end of 2019 and accepted thousands of deaths in return – it is now making the survivors celebrate and splash around, while the alarm bells are ringing again in Germany due to rising numbers.
