More balconies, bigger kitchens and a study? How is the corona pandemic changing our housing preferences? The SPD and the Greens want to have that scientifically investigated in Hamburg.

Housing has to be affordable – that was the focus of urban planning and politics in Hamburg for years. If possible, building should also be climate-friendly. Now the corona pandemic is setting a new focus, says Martina Koeppen, housing policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group.

Application in the citizenry

More space? More silence? But maybe more community? In order to stop poking around in the fog with the answers to these questions, the Senate should commission a scientific study on living behavior. Red-Green wants to submit a corresponding application in the next citizenship meeting.

Results should be available in 2022

For Olaf Duge (Greens), a consequence of the pandemic could be that many people want to move to the countryside. But the development towards more home offices could also require completely different floor plans. The results of the study should be available by the end of 2022.
